I was wondering if anyone has used Fido's Closasole before? I got some, and found it to definitely be effective against roundworms (the day after worming some older kittens, dozens of roundworms were found in their feces), but am not sure about tapeworms. To try to get a better idea, I did a bit of an experiment on one of my cats. I noticed tapeworm segments on his rump, and would check daily for segments for about a week (getting the segments off after checking), and sure enough, every day he had a few new segments. I gave him the wormer and within a day or two, noticed no new segments. While I know this doesn't confirm its effectiveness, it makes me think that it has potential. I did a similar test with a kitten (around 4 months old), though the day after, it seemed like her butt exploded with tapeworm segments, and I have never seen that happen before. Has anyone else seen this? I haven't noticed any tapeworm segments since, but am wondering if it's possible to only kill some of the tapeworms.

I noticed in the cat health forum, everyone seemed to discourage OTC wormers. However, when you're dealing with 10+ cats, it's somewhat unrealistic to worm them all with Drontal, seeing as the cost is at least $5 per cat, and it may take multiple dosages to get rid of the problem.

What have you found effective in dealing with tapeworms with a large magnitude of cats?

It claims to kill some kinds of tapeworms and not others. They recommend using in conjunction with praziquantel for full protection. I have used Worm-X Plus, as it's supposedly liver-flavored and can be hidden in food, and I have also used generic praziquantel, but unfortunately praziquantel is bitter and difficult to disguise.

Are the cats handleable or fully feral?

It claims to kill tapeworms caused by fleas, which is definitely the worm I'm dealing with. Despite my misleading title, these are all indoor cats that I can generally handle (with the exception of one or two). I was just curious as to other worming options for tapeworms, and if the tapeworm segments after worming the kitten was a normal occurrence. I am terrible at pilling cats, so I generally determine the dosage, crush it up with a mortar and pestle, and mix it with 2mL of the water out of a tuna can. Where can you get generic praziquantel?

Hi :D. I honestly would not use OTC dewormers. Can you get something from the rescue you work with? Droncit is what you need, not Drontal. Also, you have to get rid of the fleas too or the cat's will just get re-infested with the tapeworm. One dosage will eradicate the worm. You should not see any more segments after the deworming if it was successful. I totally understand your predicament with many cat's and the expense :hugs:. I just hate to see you buy OTC products that could potentially not work and could cause a bad reaction and then a vet visit :sigh:. Glad to see your posts lately too and the great success with Bartholomew :clap:
