To make a long story short, before we could get my in-door cat spayed, she got out (she is really sneaky & fast).  She gave birth to 1 kitten (who was tail first) at 5:35 pm and the 2nd one at 6:45 pm.  It is now 9:00 pm so is it safe to say that she is done?  I'm trying to stay away and leave her be but since I got her, she has been a really clingy kitty so I'm in the next room.  She doesn't seem to be having contractions or moving around a lot.  Thanks           Christine

Maybe if she seems at ease, but cats can go up to 3 hours between kittens, sometimes more. My friends foster cat had 3 kittens a few hours apart and she had not had any for 5 hours so she went to bed, she woke up the next morning to 4 kittens not 3.

Ohhh great.  It's going to be a long night!  I just checked on her and she is laying on her side with the babies nursing and she's purring away .... although, she has been purring the whole time while giving birth so who knows.  Also, there is one placenta (I think that's what it is called) in there .. just laying there.  Should I take it out or will she eat it later?

I have never had mine leave it before, but if she didn't eat it right away I would get rid of it personally.

Don't leave her, make yourself comfortable next to the birthing box. So you can ensure the kittens are born properly and breathing right away, make sure all the placentas are expelled and also just to comfort the new mum.

You should be able to see and feel if there are more kittens still to come.

Well, it's after midnight and no new kittens so I think she is done.  She came over and sat on my lap for a few minutes.  Her birthing box is next to my bed so I can keep an eye on her.

Congrats on the new babies!  What do they look like?  You are so lucky she only had two. Mine had 7!  Are you going to keep either of them?

The 1st one is an orange tabby and the 2nd was is all black (mom is a black tort with white ... she looks a lot like the cat in your avatar, crickets mom).  I have no idea if we are or not but my sister definitely is getting one.  She keeps coming out of her box thing and sitting on my lap and meowing.

Sorry to bug you all but she gave birth to another one about an hour ago.  Should I take her to the vet?!  She seems ok right now ....

No, if she is happy and contend and no complications, no reason.

The birth many hours apart is NOT peculiar, it happens quite often.

Of course, do phone your vet and ask if you want, may be wise.

I called the emergency vet clinic and she said that it is very unusual for them to go that far between babies (it was 26 hrs) and that it's a miracle the last one (so far) is alive.  Well, I talked to my aunt earlier (BEFORE the assumed last kitten was born) who has had kittens all her life and she said that when she was younger, her cats would ALWAYS have kittens a day or 2 later and to expect some more later on in the day.  She seems more into them now, she is eating, drinking, using the litter box.  My fiance and I are sleeping in shifts just in case anything happens.  lol

It's not overly unusual, never had it happen here (breeder) though.

If she's settled she's likely done, you should be able to feel her tummy and be able to feel if there's any more in there.

I'll try and feel her tummy right now.  She seems more settled in.  Earlier she was in and out of the basket and now she seems more content with them so hopefully that's a good sign.

Well, I think she is done!  Guess there were only 3.  Her tummy sure moved around a lot when she was pregnant .... we were so sure she'd have more than that!  Here is a picture I took of them yesterday.  Thank you for all your help!!

I always love the way kittens stretch their front legs out when feeding!  They look a good size as well, hope all goes well with them.
