Coughing/ Vomiting

Our kitten came home with a cold; now our one-year-old has a deep, hacking cough, generally followed by him vomiting. (He's going to the vet tomorrow.)

Is it possible for a cat to have a cold that simply makes him cough so hard, that he throws up each time it hits him? (I would think it's possible, since humans can cough hard enough to vomit.)

I'm thinking hair ball, but let the vet decide.

Peaches will cough so hard she throws up. But what she throws up looks like mostly hairball. She doesn't do it anymore since I've been giving her a hairball formula cat food. But I'm with the DragonLady... let the VEt give the ultimate diagnosis
