So for the last month and a half I have been feeding a cat that I have seen on my block often. I set up a little box with blankets on my porch that the cat sleeps in and she allows me to pet her, she rolls over , she purrs, overall she is a very friendly cat. She still gets a little skittish if I move to fast towards her or sometimes when I first start to pet her. This morning I decided it was time to bring her to the vet to see if she is actually pregnant and to get it shots and spayed. When I went to pick her up, she wiggled pretty fast to get out of my grip, and without thinking as she was trying to get away I grabbed her leg. She hissed at me when I did this and so I let go. When I tried going near her she just kept going away from me. I left to do some errands, and when I came back the good news was that she was back. My question is what do you think the best way to try to capture her might be, and also do you think that in time she will become to trust me again? My biggest concern for the cat is to get it spayed so it does not produce more kittens that will become feral. I would eventually if I do get to take her to the vet and the vet clears her of any possible diseases make her an indoor cat, just like the two I have now. Any adivse on what to do , and what no to do will be much appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for taking care of the cat, and for caring.

Why do you think she is pregnant?  Is her belly growing; is she hungrier than usual?

Can you borrow a humane trap and try to trap her?

If she gets close enough to you, ou can try to scruff her by the neck (and, as soon as you do, support her bottom) and then put her into a cat carrier right away.  And take her to the vets that day.

Let the vet know the circumstances beforehand, so he/she can fit you in without a lot of notice.  Most vets are accommodating under this circumstance.

I ordinarily would advise you to leave a cat carrier outside so she can get use to it and then try to trap her in that; but it seems time might be of the essence.

Cats have an amazing ability to forgive and forget, they live in the present; so yes the cat will forgive you.

I second Ritz.  As she is friendly, you can try use the carrier in the ways suggested.  Otherwise, use a human trap.  Nay, she wont get sour.  If you chased and took her by force - yes perhaps, but not if you do it in a tidy, painless way.    :)

Once in the carrier trap.  If the vet cant take her immediately, she can be there to the next day too if necessary. Homeless cats are used to lay still in their hide even 24 hours or more.

Lay something over the carries, so she has air, but in there is dark and feels like in a nice hidey hole.

And of course have it somewhere where is not too cold nor hot.

She will do all right.

Proceed and keep us updated, and also if you do have more questions.

Welcome to the TCS site and our Forums!

Good luck!   *vibes*

WELCOME TO TCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am glad you found us :hugs: AWWWWW what a bummer about that - BUT she is back and you can try over for sure. Can you start feeding her inside of a cat carrier? that way she will get used going in the carrier for food for a day or two and then on vet day, just close her in. Might be safer for you and I would be sad if you got scratched or bit :(. HOW kind and loving of you to want to rescue this kitty.... she sounds like she already really trusts and loves you too :heart3: :rub: Let us know.... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
