Other things to watch for>>
-sometimes you see a little blood-tinged discharge 24-48 hours before labor starts. You have to watch closely while she's cleaning/licking that area because she will clean it away quickly. Also look in her favorite spot where she usually likes to sleep. Sometimes you might see a small spot of blood on the blanket, sheet, or whatever she lays on.
-1-3 days before labor...some cats lose appetite and eat much less. some cats eat constantly. and some cats, there's no noticable difference.
- 1-5 days before labor....she might act clingy and follow you around all day. I notice this happens more often with first litters
- 1-3 week before, you will notice her peaking around, trying to get into closets, drawers etc. (even if you have a special box or area for her) With most of the cats I've had, this picks up drastically during the last week. Especially the last couple of days. They seem very on edge or exictable when doing this at the end of pregnancy.
- My cats always came and got me, or woke me up if it was during the night, when labor is just about to begin. I had one cat that sat on the stairs looking at me and meowing as if to say, "come on up stairs NOW, I'm ready!" LOL I had another that jumped on my lap while sitting on the sofa and then proceded to jump down and back up again until I stood up, then she ran upstairs and meowed at the top of the stairs for me to come. haha they are so funny and cute
- and they almost NEVER actually give birth in the box you've made for them. In my experience, it either starts on my bed or some place nearby like under the bed or behind dresser...so I will always have clean sheets ready. I spread them out all over the floor (some cats move around alot during delivery) and just sit with her and let her do her thing. then when she's finished birthing and cleaning up the kittens, I will put them all in the box together.
Anyway, good luck, keep us up to date.
I'm just hoping my Bella has her kittens this week because I have jury duty next week and there's no way to get out of it. darn it! I'm nervous that I wont be here.
