I am wondering how the ophthamologist appointment went.  My cat had this same problem a month ago, and they put her on eyedrops and lysine food supplement.  The vet was not sure what the problem was, but  was concerned that it might be early signs of FIP.  Please let us all know how the specialist appointment went.

Hi I am new to this site and came across this forum when I searched for an explanation for the same problem: sudden onset in dilation of only one eye of a rescued kitty. This kitty is in vet hospital over weekend and I am worried sick. Your responses have helped calm my fears but I still am preparing for the worst, hoping for the best. This is the first time I have ever seen this symptom. I took him in to vet and his temperature was very low (98.3 or so) and he wouldn't eat or play and looked blah. (About a week) Before that he had dental surgery (6 extractions) pain meds, and antibiotic injection. Vet said dilation of the one eye could be caused by an inner ear infection. Anyway he is in hospital as I speak getting subcutaneous fluids and also had a SEX injection on Friday. Any feedback would be appreciated. As this is about the 4th time sudden drop in temp etc has occurred.

A cat adopted me recently and never having had cats (lost 2 dogs within the past year) before I was going to try and take him to the vet in 2 wks and get him fixed and checked out.  He sleeps outside all night and only comes in during the day when he wants.  Today I looked at him and when he opened his eyes one pupil is huge and there was some discharge in it.  He has seemed a little off the past few days but I haven't known him that long.  But he seems to be sleeping more and tonight he didn't even seem to want his food.  I don't think I can get an appt sooner than the one I already have (plus I don't even know if I can get him in a cage).  He does shake his head a lot and yawns a lot. I don't know if I can afford to take him to the emergency clinic.  Any ideas?  I will try calling the vet tomorrow for suggestions.
