Watched the London broadcast of Phantom of the Opera on PBS last night and it was just amazing.  Anyone who likes the Phantom music should definitely see this.    Can't remember his name - but the man who played the Phantom had the most unbelievably beautiful voice and his version of "Music of the nIght" just gave me goosebumps ---- but I've always loved this show and loved the music.     It's well worth seeing and it will be on several times during the month of March.

Oh I'd love to see that!  I know some of the songs; but I've never seen it performed.  I wonder if I can see online when it'll be on next?  I might have a better chance of catching it if it's programed on my cell phone to remind me!!

Check your TV listings.     It's on here again one evening this week (can't remember which - but it's opposite American Idol) and Saturday at 8 pm.  Hope you catch it and it's definitely worth seeing.   We saw it at a theatre in Ft. Lauderdale years ago and the movie version with Gerard Butler.  I loved the movie, but this production is much better, more elaborate and more songs that I had never heard before.     Hope you can catch it at some point.   The finale had a reunion of all the past Phamtoms and they all got together and did "Music of the Night" --- absolutely beautiful!!!

Agreed!! I was obsessed with this musical when it came to Broadway. I think I saw it 15 times (standing room was cheap then). A friend and I wrote Michael Crawford a letter, gushing, and he invited us backstage the next time we saw the show, so of course, we went! A truly gracious and generous (and talented) man. I was so happy to see him at the big on-stage reunion on the show!!

Definitely watch your PBS listings - it's listed as a "Great Performances" show. The guy playing the phantom is Ramin Karimloo. Outstanding!!

That must have been an unforgettable experience!    There's absolutely nothing like a Broadway show.    When we lived in NY (years ago) we just loved going to see a show on Broadway.   Broadway shows and Rockefeller Center at Christmas are the two things I miss most about NY.   Did you get to take any pictures with Michael Crawford?   I love his voice - and it was so amazing to see him at the London finale along with the other Phantoms.   We're going to watch it again this Saturday!

No, I didn't take any pictures, and I could have kicked myself afterwards. I don't think I had a working camera at the time. I do, though, have the letter he sent us back, after ours, inviting us backstage. My friend Angie had it nicely framed and gave it to me as a birthday present, ages ago. :D

All during all the introductions at the end of the PBS show, I kept thinking, "Please let Michael Crawford be there." And he was! The only disappointment was that they didn't have him sing part of the "Music of the Night" number, where they all took part.

Our PBS station finally showed it last night and really enjoyed it! (Despte the fact that Aristotle decided he had to sit and block my view when it started. )

I always find it fascinating see how original stage productions are translated to film. (Both have their good and back points...)
