My foster (well, guess she's mine now since they didn't want her back) cat Sassy had some abnormal bloodwork a month ago and after a follow up CBC and review by the pathologist, they are saying it is likely early lymphocytic leukemia although the pathologist saw no abnormal cells at this time. They want to repeat her blood test in 2-3 months to see if there is any change. She is not "sick". Appetite is good, activity, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Just wondering what to expect. I have been trying to re-home her because she absolutely hates cats and it has been WW3 at my house since early July. She spends a lot of time in the bedroom which isn't fair to her either. Now though... nobody is going to want a cat who has cancer so I need to know what to expect if she does have this.

There's no place like home
The first love of my life died from that cancer. That was an odd one because he had all the signs of being ill, and the first few rounds of blood work didn't show anything to indicate cancer. We ran xrays and ultrasounds and found the cancer elsewhere first, and realized that it had already spread through his body. It wasn't until late stages before they were able to isolate the lymphocytic leukemia.

What I do recall is that he got the cancer about 6 months after we moved across the country, and we all suspected that it was the stress of moving that triggered it.

If Sassy is really stressed in your home, then I would really try to find her a foster situation where she is an only cat (plead to potential adopters to help her), or can be isolated without too much stress. If your boys are sensing that she is ill, they may continue to pick on her.

Sending :hugs: your way.

Sassy is just the opposite. No signs of being ill, but she does have the elevated lymphocytes. I do know that whatever caused it, stress isn't going to help her any. Xander doesn't bother her, but then Xander is a giant teddy bear whose only natural enemy is the imaginary bugs he chases on the walls :D
Riley, however, is merciless in his stalking of her. She is spending more and more time in the bedroom :(
