Well this evening he is more like his old self again, not 100% but I think the injections have definitely made a difference to him. I will not be satisfied until he starts talking to me again, he normally when I ask him "what a matter Billy?" he mews at me. Hopefully very soon. He is still licking it though I keep telling him NO when I see him do it and he does stop, think I will just have to keep telling him no and hopefully he will give up with it, I know the plastic cone collars are sometimes necessary but I know it would just stress him out.Oh and I found out he weighs 3.18kg

I bet he will be all better by morning! I wish my cat weighed 7 lbs. hehe

Billy has just been sick
Could this be a reaction to the injections? He still seems fine in himself and it was all food in the sick (yes I inspected it-well you have to). He has gotten me quite worried now.x

Do the free feed? Or do you feed them meals? If you feed them meals, maybe feed him more of them but smaller amounts for a few days. Yes, this can definitely be from the antibiotics, they make some cats nauseous. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Good news.

Sounds like the anbtibiotic is really getting to grips with the infection.  I suspect it will look a lot more normal - the redness and swelling is probably gone or almost gone.

If you've ever had a major boil, you have some idea of why he wasn't himself!  Poor boy!  Glad he's doing better.

Hi and so glad to read your kitty Billy is healing nicely.

With all of the cats we've had, I've seen many a boil or abscess, and while an on-the-job trained vet tech many years ago, saw plenty of excised (careful, make sure you wear a face mask), squeezed and cleansed abscesses, with the large ones getting a draining tube sutured in place.

Normally I won't find an abscess on my cats until three or four days after they've been in a tiff, but if I find a cat scratch or bite wound the day it happens, I will use an germ cleansing soap on it and a squeezable bactericidal powder which helps it to dry. I use NFZ Puffer. Doing this for a couple of days keeps it from every getting to the abscess stage. The cat will usually lick the medicine off, but I make sure to reapply it later, doing it twice daily, and this is usually enough to help it from getting infected. If they lick the powder, well, they are getting some of the bactericidal in their system. Also, I have no problem with a cat licking its wound. I know cats mouths are dirty but at the same time they contain enzymes that are detrimental to some bacteria, and are licking away bacteria left by the scratch or bite. And if it is a draining abscess, then they are helping to keep the hole open so it will continue to drain, otherwise it scabs over and refills with puss. The groomer at the pet shop I go to has told me that she has found plenty of lumps and abscesses on pets that the owners were not aware of, so they are easily overlooked under all of that fur.

Billy is fine thanks, his fur has almost grown back and although the abscess is slightly raised still it looks like the scab has nearly all gone. I have been bathing it so hopefully that has helped. He is 100% back to being Billy cat again, my friend has been round tonight and he hasn't left her alone whereas when he was ill he wasn't bothered with visitors and thats not like Billy at all.x
