When I'm sitting down and Cucumella climbs on my chest with her head close to mine I can hear something like a breathing noise coming from her chest. She doesn't open her mouth gasping for air  or seem at all distressed but I often wonder if this is normal and all cats do it? She looks quite healthy to me; she eats and drinks well, has no difficulty climbing up fairly high furniture and runs very fast if caught misbehaving like climbing into the kitchen sink. She is 9 years old. Many thanks for any help. Best wishes to all.

I think we need a little more detail on the kind of noise you are hearing :). Is your cat very relaxed during this time? Could be snoring or just a heavy breathing. Is it all the time? My Presley breaths that way - a little bit of a heavy breather when he is really sleeping or relaxed. If it is a raspy sound then could be a cold coming on. If there is no coughing, sneezing, runny nose or eyes then I wouldn't worry too much. Of course, if you think it is more than just "heavy breathing" then do call your vet ;)
