I was at my mother's on Saturday....took a large storage container up to her as her cat has been peeing out over the litter box. The Sterlite container works beautifully; Muffin has no trouble using it; Rick cut a door into one of the ends of the container and she goes in and out without a problem. Mom is happy as there's no peeing out of the box anymore.

Anyway, there's a large family reunion every year in August for members of my mom's family. She hasn't gone to this reunion in years and years as my dad never wanted to go. She asked me if I'd take her to the reunion this year. I told that, of course, we could go. But I'm more than a little nervous as most of these are people I've not seen in.....decades? Probably since I was a little girl. Who knows, it could be fun. Mom called me this morning and said she put the reunion date on her calendar and she's really looking forward to going. So I'll make some kind of food and she and I will be going to the reunion. (I'm trying to talk my sister into going, too, but so far, she wants nothing to do with it.)

And my niece-in-law is pregnant...I'm going to be a great-aunt! She's due around the end of May, but we think there's an "oops!" in there somewhere as she's just huge. She may not go that long; either that or there's another baby in there somewhere. My sister and I are planning a baby shower for her for the end of March. We were going to do everything ourselves (I was going to do the baking and such), but my sister doesn't like all the planning and cooking and decorating. So she's booked the shower at a local hotel in town....she said she had been to a baby shower there a couple years ago and she really enjoyed it. So I guess that's what we're doing. It should be fun. (She did ask me if I'd make my sugar cookies in the shape of baby hands and I could tint the frosting pink...we know the baby is a girl. She'll help me....I can bake, but I'm not really a decorator when it comes to baked goods.)

My FIL turns 90 in March. My MIL called yesterday to ask if I'd do a small birthday dinner for him....I usually do for both of them and they pick out the menu and I cook. We had to figure out a good Saturday because there's a lot of stuff going on this coming month for some reason. (Some garden and flower shows we'd like to attend, Rick will be in Oregon for a week in March, my sister and I will be working on painting a room in the basement, things like that.) But we worked it out and my FIL will let me know what he wants me to make. Since it's his 90th, I may work on something a little more special. Rick's sister and BIL will be here for dinner and the kids are coming up, too. I hope it's nice outside so we can grill.

So we're already working on some family events for the upcoming months. Should be fun!

What about you? Any special family times coming up? Do you attend family reunions? What plans do you have for this year so far?

2 big things.  One won't be drama-filled (let's hope not) one may be.

ODD graduates high school in June
My family is coming.  Hopefully the inlaws will come too.  They don't like driving and we're a 10 hour drive 1 way.  Dh and I really don't like them driving all that way by themselves anyways- both are in their mid 70's.  What we're thinking might happen is that they'll go up to DC (3 hours from us- MIL sister lives there) and they'd come here from there.

Then there's the 2nd niece's wedding.  Don't know how thrilled we are.  Both are only 19.  Niece will have her associates.  Her fiance will have some sort of certificate- I can't remeber if it's electronics (ie house wiring) or HVAC- (or are they one in the same)?  He will hopefully have a job- but we all know what the housing market in the US looks like at the moment.  Though people are spending money remodling, and a working HVAC unit is kind of important
I think they want kids right away.  Again- their choice but- you kind of need money to do that (though dh said if we'd waited until we had money for kids we would have never had them).

That's not the issue.  The issue is with my dd.  They were going to get married over Labor Day.   And that really wouldn't have worked for DD.  Mil kind of had a fit when her sister didn't come to my other niece's wedding- I can just imagine the fireworks if dd can't go.  Well- now they've moved it to August.  Um- that date really isn't going to work for dd either.  The college that is on the top of the list right now (she's 3 for 3 with acceptances- but she's leaning toward this one school) has given her $3000/ year for 4 years for music.  And this is on top of a couple of other scholarships.  With the music one- she has to keep a 2.5 GPA, take lessons.  And the thing that's going to possibly involve this wedding is that she has to attend a music camp in August.  I have no idea when.  No information on the website.  Dh said they'll have to get over it if she can't go.  Unless they feel like coming up with an additional $12,000 over the next 4 years.

Where my cats are
Mostly we are occupied with our own baby things going on here.  11 more weeks!
Mom and some ladies from church are throwing a small shower for us in April.  We have maternity/family photos scheduled for early April as well.  A friend's mom will be taking our pics down on the beach!!  She did my maternity ones with DD, DD's newborn pics and her first Christmas ones as well.  But she was a January baby so all of those were indoors.  I'm really looking forward to doing them on the beach.  I found a red and white dress for DD to wear with a white cardigan.  Just need to buy it and figure out what DH and I will be wearing.  And pray the weather cooperates!  That is the hard part!  Also doing Easter dress shopping.

We are still working on changing the "study" into the new baby's room too.  The new office area is set up and looks great; but now the old room looks like a junk room!  DH will be painting and putting up some chair rail.  I'd love to get some small crown molding up too, like we did in DD's room.  It may have to wait.  Then we can put furniture in there.  Still need to buy a dresser for him.  I've been looking on Craigslist and what not; but not much luck.  Probably will have to go the put-it-together-yourself route with him like we did for DD.  That dresser has been great though so I don't mind too much.  DH might.

Then there is buying and putting up the swing set for DD!  We figure she is ready for one at home now.  And with the new baby coming; it'll be so much easier to just go out back for a bit than to get to the park.  Plus we should be able to put it where it gets shade from our big trees in the back!

So you see we are rather self-occupied at the moment!  It's a little more than I like to have on my to-do list; but I guess normal when a new baby is coming.  My cousin's wife is expecting their first in July.  They live out of state from me (or should I say I do from all of our family) and I bet the shower will be right around my due date.  So I won't be able to get to that one.  I doubt it anyway!  I'd LOVE to go!  So maybe if my Mom goes we can manage.  I'd be able to stay with family and have lots of help.  It's more DD that I need to manage.
And that's all if the new baby is here by then!  My step-sister is expecting a baby this summer as well!  But she also lives in another state.

Other than that I don't think much is going on with my family this year.  We had weddings and what not the last 2 years.  Grandpa's big birthday bash was in January (and I couldn't go either).  So unless it's something unexpected; it's pretty much all about baby boy this year for us.
