As some of you may remember i took in a stray kitten last October.

Beans was due to get spayed early January but my vet wanted to wait until February because she had not been feeling well,Nothing major as she did not need antibiotics just sneezing and such.

Well me and hubby went on Vacation for a week and returned home January 26...She had never been in heat before we left.

My mother in law was pet sitting for us and did not mention anything to me when we got home about her getting out or even being in heat.

Yup Beans has a pregnancy belly....I have had many pregnant cats in my home just all fosters and strays i have taken in.

So i called my mother in law and she mentioned to me that she had let her out 2 days in a row ( i had mentioned before we left she is not to go outside). She is about 5 weeks now from the date she was out January 22 and 23. I am taking her into the vets next week for a check up, She is so tiny and young still i think she is only 8 months or so.

As soon as i get a new camera i will take pics. I am so glad i am experianced with this but i hate myself for not spaying her sooner by finding another vet or now i feel guilty for going on holidays.

No, please don't blame yourself. If anything I would blame your MIL for letting her outside against your express instructions.

Many vets will do pregnancy spays, depending on how far along she is. Is that an option or is 1 months' pregnancy too late?

Vibes for Beans. :vibes:

Thanks,

I am so stressed out right now about the whole situation....Lol but i do got to admit i kinda was missing having kittens in the house as its been awhile since i have taken in a pregnant foster, Just wish it wasnt my cat.

I have a vet appointment on Tuesday and i will talk to him then, I am not sure what the timeline is for a pregnancy spay but she more than half way through it.

Many vets will still do a spay abort up until 40 days, I think. It's worth talking to him/her and considering it. So many cats and so few homes :(

AW hun........ that was very irresponsible of your MIL  I am sure you are very upset with her and I don't blame you one bit. :shame: I guess I would see what the vet says.... a late term abort spay can be very difficult on the female. Please keep us posted on your decision. If she has the kitten's, could you keep them or some of them? Maybe your MIL should help you financially also through this process... :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

If we do decide on kittens we will keep at least 2 as our city allows 6 and we already have 2...but we wanna keep it open for more so we can still foster with no issues. And i have interested family on 2 more.

But i will wait as i said and talk to the vet.

Remember it always seems like everyone wants one until they are here and ready to go then half the people who said they want one back out

Or else ask for a deposit since you will be responsible for all of the kittens (and mom's) vaccinations and deworming and vet visits before they are old enough to be adopted, that can cost quite a bit of $$$

The food and cat litter costs as well.  I fostered a cat for a friend last year, she had 5 kittens, and all went well - easy delivery, beautiful kittens that grew well, great mum, lovely personality - I was able to let them mix with my own cats after a few weeks.

However I had four huge sacks of cat litter and I used almost all of it, and I lost count of how quickly I got though wet food.  I was forever looking for kitten food on offer, plus they got odd treats of raw mince (they all adored that) and cooked white fish.

Since then my old cat has been pts and I'm astonished how little food my two remaining cats eat.

Well the vet will not do a spay and abort....We are prepared to keep the kittens as long as needs be and bottle feed if that happens.

Since i was not able to do spay and abort the vet did an xray and we are due about 4 kittens,He thinks we maybe in for for 5 but the xray showed 4.

We are financially prepared to care for the kittens and will not be just giving away for free.

At least you know when she is due - 65 days after the first day she was out, so March 27th I think.  I found a gestation calculator which gives a lot of timeline information about cat pregnancies:

Hope all goes well, keep us updated and of course photos are always welcome...  :)

That's strange that the vet won't do it. I've heard most vets support it, especially if there is a full month left. Also, my vet said that the xrays only show calcified bones/skulls to count at 40-45 days. So if you can count based on the xray, you should have no more than 3 weeks left.

We are aprox 3 weeks left....Not all vets are the same my vet won't do it and he has been my vet for 6 years so i never questioned him about it.She was at 35-40ish days when we did the ultrasound and her size.I am approximating because i was not here when she was out and I was gone a whole week(well 8 days) so she may have gotten out before the days i was told she did as i had to really bug my mother in law to even tell me she had been out.So the best i am able to do is go on that as it somewhat gave me a base date.So who knows maybe she was farther along then i was led to believe.

Congrats!  Do weigh them every day if it is practically possible. A nice pastime and memory if everything goes well. A priceless help if something is not going well - often only good way to notice.

Good luck!  *vibes*
