Hi,
Our beloved Stan (domestic shorthaired tabby, male) was recently injured (we don't know how), and sustained an injury at the base of his tail.
A veterinary x-ray showed there was no skeletal injury, but a lack of passing of urine or faeces showed there may be nerve damage and the prognosis was that if he did not recover enough to control his own bowel movements, he may have to be "put to sleep" or at best he may recover, but may have to have his tail amputated.
We are now four days after the injury, and thankfully, he has started to pass urine and faeces so we are quite hopeful of a full recovery.
However, his tail is showing no signs of self control; the veterinary surgeon says it may take up to six weeks to recover, after which, if there is no improvement, amputation may be unavoidable.
I am sure he is going to be okay but my wife and I are still very concerned, so my question is,
Has anyone any experience of this situation and what were the results??
Many Thanks...............Brian
