Hey all,

I haven't been around in a while, had a baby boy in September and he's been very time consuming :)

Anyway, my mom went for her oncologist appt about 3 weeks ago and is now 5 years breast cancer free!  We are planning a big party for her, but are trying to think of fun/unique centerpieces for the tables and in general ideas for the party.

It is going to be a buffet style meal, catered, and I will be preparing the dessert; cupcakes, cookies and probably some pink/red fruits, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, red grapes.

So help, we need ideas!!

Thanks

Leslie

Congrats to your mom!!!!!

Here are some party ideas for a "Breast Cancer free party"

Also, what do you think about the idea of charging an "admission", which would actually be towards a donation to Breast Cancer Research?

EDIT: I see that is an idea in the link I gave you.

Congratulations on your new baby boy!!! And also for your Mom--that's so wonderful.

I don't really have any ideas, but my best friend will hopefully reach her 5 years, BC-free, in another year or so. Maybe I'll give her a party, too!

How about raffling off a hand-made pink afghan, quilt, or even just a nice gift basket, filled with bath products (pink, of course)? The proceeds coudl go to reaearch or to fund free mammograms. You don't have to make the items youself, as you are very busy now, but maybe a friend would be willing to?  I personally don't think I'd incorporate the pink ribbon motif into the quilt, etc. (Ithat may not be everybody's idea of home decor, and I'm not into over-doing a party theme motif), but simply pink and white items would be great.  I once had a blue and white them for a baby shower I hosted (the baby had already been born), but I didn't make it baby-ish in theme--just elegant. Blue, white, and used my silver and crystal serving pieces--and pink and white roses in honor of the mom (Rose). No storks in sight! LOL. Ditto for a bridal shower I hosted--the bride's favorite color was pink.  Again, elegant, nothing cutesy, but a bit more modern and young in style: pink, white, and black, with the silver and crystal again.

Maybe you could print up some self-exam and b.c. stats leaflets to have laying around? Also, a list of organizations that give free mammograms. I wokr for the county, and they have a mobile one a few times per year.

For the pink bridal shower I did, I went to AC Moore (craft store) and gave as party favors magnetic notepads that were the pink, white & black--very pretty, and only $1.00 each. Sometimes, they are .50 each--and everyone loved them--something useful. Nowadys, you may even be able to get pink ribbon ones.

I love Linda's idea of the bra cake! A boob cake may be a tad over the top, I think! LOL

Madeira cake is a British type of cake--slips my memory as to what it is--been a long time--think it has Madeira wine in it--and/or a fruitcake of some sort?

Sorry for the illiterate posting here--fat, black cat leaning on keyboard all morning...

Pink chocolate covered strawberries! Awww

I love the idea of the pink ribbons around the candy jars

This would be so easy to do with just a strip of fondant or gum paste!

I don't know what the heck you could do with this, but I find it adorable and funny:

Congratulations to your mom for being 5 years cancer-free! Awesome.
I've no good ideas to add, but it looks like there are a lot of great ones here. Have fun, and have a BIG celebration. It's a good reason!

I love the strawnerries--but are those white bon-bons, with the dark centers, supposed to, uh, suggest something as part of the theme? :-)  I shudder to think what they'd make for a "surviving testicular cancer" party! LOL (Don't get me started with those jokes!
)
