This is my Public Service Announcement for the day. ;):lol3:

I had an issue a few days ago with one of my carbon monoxide detectors. It started chirping with what sounded like a low battery warning. Changing the battery didn't help though and left a very stressed out Karen and Abby. Those piercing chirps get to you when they are going off every 30 seconds. :lol3: Anyway, a friend shared some information with me:

Carbon Monoxide detectors do not last forever and after 7 years of use some brands will start chirping. It was around 7 years ago (give or take a month) that I had purchased mine.

I went out yesterday and bought two new ones, one to replace the chirping one, and one to replace the one that would have started chirping any day.

Just thought I would share to hopefully save some of you a little aggravation. :)

Interesting, but what about those of us with hardwired detectors?

Travel trailers (RVs of any kind actually) have the units hardwired in, yet oddly, still use disposable, battery operated smoke detectors.

I must now research this.

Yeah, I just bought a new one, and it said it would "self-destruct" in 7 years :lol3:. I guess that's a good idea. . .I have a plug-in one from 1995 and I don't know if it's still good or not. Which is why I bought a new one :tongue2:. Better for it to self-destruct like that rather than leave you wondering if it's still working.

I don't know if the hard-wired ones are the same. The one I bought said specifically that it's not for use in RVs or boats, that those places need a special kind. So maybe they last longer.

Huh.  I didn't know that either.  We don't have any in this house because everything is electric run.  But we had one in our last place.  I'm going to pass that bit of info on myself!

Oh and I know the annoying chirp!!  I came home from work once and mine was doing that.  Poor Mooch and Noodles!  I have no idea how long it was going off before I got home!!
