Hello. I am the mother to five children (ages 2-15), one service dog, 3 dart frogs, 2 birds, and 2 cats. My cats are Reese (for Reeses Pieces candy because she's a Tortie and has all the colors of my favorite candy) and Kit (short for Kit Cat - because he's super silly & energetic and always doing something that gives me pause to say, "Gimme a Break"). Both kitties were adopted.
Reese was a "foster failure" (meaning that while I was a foster parent for the humane society, I fell in love with her and failed to adopt her out, thus - keeping her as my own). She is a 10yr old Tortie, very shy & quiet, and only comes around when someone is plopped on the couch with a blanket for her to perch on and maul you until you pet her.
Kit was a Christmas gift this past Christmas. We'd found him while shopping for stocking stuffers for our other pets. He was meowing so loudly that I followed the sound to the back of the petstore where it was love at first sight. He is considered an "Odd-eyed White" because one of his eyes is blue and the other is dual colored green & gold. Kit will be 9 mo old soon. His latest "give me a break" moment was a hefty emergency vet bill for exploratory surgery this last week where vets retrieved a 9" hairband from his upper intestines. He just came home from the hospital after 3 days in ICU and is recovery slowly but surely. (Yes! We will be seeking cat insurance on this guy for the possibility of next time!)
I have always loved cats. I have 9 years of experience on the care and treatment of orphaned kittens and have had 7+ years volunteer experience with Cat Adoption Team (a no-kill shelter for cats in Sherwood, OR), the Oregon Humane Society, and other smaller cat adoption & outreach groups. I'm here because I am in a position where I've entered unfamiliar territory as new information on medical care in cats seems to have changed and I'm hoping to keep up on the latest tidbits of news & gossip to help me keep my own cats safe, as well as a place to brag about how much our family adores them! Pics will be shared often.
