For the past 3 weeks my Mario has had deep respiratory bronchial cough - it sounds phlemy and a little mucus-y.  So far I've only noticed that she will cough about once a day, maybe twice.  She's not wheezing or breathing with her mouth open.  She doesn't gasp for air.  She's fine after we play laser chase.  I think perhaps her bronchial tubes could be irritated from pilling, vomiting, or trying to change her cat food.  At what point should I be concerned?  I mean, I'm concerned now, but she hates vet visits so I don't want go take her until I'm sure I have something to worry about.

Thanks for your help.

So does she cough after any specific event, like immediately after pilling, or something like that?  I'm always paranoid with coughing, because in some cases it is a sign of a heart condition.  However, one of my boys coughs after drinking from the fountain, and ONLY then, so our Vet said since it's only when he's had a drink there, we shouldn't be concerned.

I would think it's definitely worth at least a phone call to your Vet, especially as it sounds like you are already pilling him for something, correct?

At first I thought it was following pilling and eating, but then she coughed the other day when I got home from work and was about to feed her....could have been acid excitement maybe...

I didn't see her cough yesterday and I was home all day so hopefully it is just some passing irritation.  If it persists for a few more days I will give the vet a call.

If it's a deep, wet, chest cough, you should definitely take her in. I thought Flowerbelle had a hairball cough going, but she had bronchitis. The cough went away with doxy.

And, as Carolina's absolutely heart breaking video illustrates... best just to make sure. :heart3:
