I have seen clips on youtube of dogs welcoming service men and women returning home from Afganistan, and really enjoyed them. One person however said that a cat would never do that.

Wrong!!! The last time my husband came home, our cat gave him a welcome that could match any dog. He was asleep upstairs, but as soon as he heard my husband he came running. He raced down, trilling away and rolled over onto his back purring extra loudly at his feet.

When my husband sat down, he jumped onto his lap and would not leave him alone. Our cat is no "lap cat" so we were both suprised.

Sat with excited cat on lap, my husband opened his back pack to get a gift out for me. Some dirty shirts landed on the floor as he tried to find the gifts, and that is where the fun really started. Our cat went wild as he rolled around in the shirts as if they were premium grade catnip!!!

I have also noticed that for the first week that my husband is away, our cat will sleep in his chair which is not one of his usual places.

My husband returns yet again next week.(Fingers crossed for a safe return...) I will try to film it.

Does anyone else have a similar experience????

That's a beautiful story.  My prayers for your husband's safe trip home.  And ah, Christian...

Under the cats, mostly.
Bootie and Tosca always come to the front door to say hello when we come home after being out, no matter how short a time it may have been. They don't go crazy unless they've been in a cattery for a week - even though they have all their creature comforts there. It's really nice to have a little "welcome home" from them ;) even if it is only because they want us to feed them.

What an amazing clip! Thanks for letting me see that.

Only a few days to wait now. The weather is really bad out there so i am praying that he is not delayed. When he was away last, he was a little worried that our cat would have forgotten about him - Gilbert certainly proved him wrong, even after such a long time

I will try and film this time - if i am not too excited myself!!!!

Over the river and through the woods...
Prayers for a safe return. How long has he been gone this time? I really admire military families and truly appreciate the sacrifices they make. My hat is off to you and your husband (and of course Gilbert too!)

Thanks! Its tough when he is away, especially as we have moved countries in the middle of it all. He gets to come home more often than is usual , but is there for much longer than a normal army tour. Hope that makes sense.

Gilbert has been a true friend to me while we have been alone. He really is an extra special cat. My husband found him as a kitten, stuck inside a car engine of all places. Although i took on the day to day care of Gilbert and we adore each other, he has always had a strong bond with my husband. Before he went away last, I took a photo of them both lying on their backs fast asleep. Such a cute photo, but it nearly broke my heart as the was the night before he had to return back out there.

Still fingers crossed that the weather is clear enough for him to fly in the morning
