I thought I'd start a new thread so it's seen but it's sort of a continuation of the thread titled "Should I approve or deny this adoption" below.

Well, Lilly didn't go to the home I had reservations about. It turns out they weren't interested anyway. They wanted a "smaller and younger cat". I'm perfectly happy with that. Thinking about it more there is no way I would have been comfortable with her going there. Although there wasn't anything particularly wrong with them they just gave me a bad vibe and I want to feel good about the homes my foster babies go to.

But I have good news anyway - Lilly is getting adopted into another home! After waiting for over two years she is finally getting a home of her own. She's going to a single lady who lost her cat a few months ago and I think she will take great care of Lilly. She seems like a really sweet and caring woman who likes to spoil kitties and I think kitties should be spoiled.

It's a bit bittersweet because I've raised this kitty since she was a tiny furball and she's very attached to me but I'm really happy that she is getting a permanent home. I'm happy that someone wants a little black cat. Way too few people do. This lady is getting a great, quirky little cat:)

Fabulous update :clap: :woohoo: This lady WILL cherish Lilly and spoil her rotten. Bittersweet but you must feel so good inside and in your heart about this. Two years is a long time to wait for a forever home, but it had to be the perfect one or you would not be letting her go. You gave Lilly a new lease on life and now you found her a loving home :heart3: :hugs: Love happy stories like this..... a new beginning.... :D

Awww!  What great news!!  I am glad it worked out for Lily to find a home that you could feel good about.  I rescued a cocker spaniel once and found him a home that was absolutely amazing!  Even when he started to show some signs of aggression toward a toddler, this family pulled out all the stops and got help for him immediately.  Many people would have just thrown him out or rehomed him, but these people loved him so much!  :)  They still have him and he is living his golden years in the lap of luxury.  :)  Congrats to you and Lily.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm so happy she's finally getting adopted. This is only the second person who has ever inquired about her. No interest in her at all for over two years so this is really great. I'm a bit worried about her though. She's been with me since she was a very tiny kitten and I hand raised her. She's very attached to me. I'm sure she'll come around but it will be very hard the first few days. I just hate adopting out my long time fosters because they don't understand. They don't know that they were living here temporary. To them this is their home and we're their family. I'm afraid that when they are dropped off with someone else they think they've been abandoned.

I wish I was wealthy. I'd buy a big house and keep them all:)

:yeah: I will second that one :hugs: :bigthumb: It is such a worry when the fosters get placed - we can only do so much though with the financial means that we have - but I agree - I wish I had much more in the "green" department to help kitties. :heart3:

That is great news! I can not believe you have had her for two years. I do not know how fostering works, but is that normal? Hope they take great care of Lily and maybe you should point them to this site. :)

For us it's normal to have cats stay with us for a long time. We have one cat that has been with us for three years and only one person inquiring about him in all that time. I know a lot of other foster based rescues have the same issue, especially with black cats. Shelters or rescues that have their cats at pet stores place the cats faster since they are seen by more people but our cats are just online on a site with thousands of other cats so it takes time for them to be seen and liked by people who are interested in adopting. We are also a bit more picky than shelters and some rescues that will adopt cats on site to anyone who is interested. We have a long application and we do a home visit before we approve an adoption. That turns some people off that don't understand why they have to jump through all these hoops "just to get a cat". But many adopted cats don't stay in their adopted homes and end up being rehomed, euthanized or turned into a shelter again and we want to do whatever we can to ensure that that's not going to be one of our cats. We want them to go to good homes, not just any homes.

Sadly most people want little cute kittens or exotic looking cats. Not a lot of people are interested in adopting more average looking adults, even if they are some of the sweetest cats. Looks is the deciding factor and little black cats like Lilly don't draw a lot of attention. There are lots and lots and lots of cats like her and very few people who have an open enough mind to be willing to adopt them and sometimes it takes two years to find them. I really wish more people were willing to give average looking cats a chance. They really are some of the best cats.

Thank you for what you do!

I just adopted another black cat about 4 weeks ago.  Back home in Ohio I have 4 (one passed last year - diabetes - whole other story) - but since my job has me in the DC area for almost two years - I have been catless.  Even though it was stretch to afford it, I adopted a lovely 4 year old black cat from a nice rescue place.  Bandit had been with the nice lady for 3 years!

He is making much progress - he only spends a little less than 1/2 the day under the bed.  But he is learning that he rules the roost (well except the lovebird - lovebird alternately fascinates and terrifies him)

Black cats are the best! (not that I am partial or anything)
