Parker has been having more and more "FHS" attacks. I am assuming something is wrong with him and will be taking him to the vet next weekend when I have some money...

I took a picture of him yawning and noticed his teeth are very yellow in the back. He doesn't have any redness (that I can see, since his gums are black) and no swelling. He is eating all his meals like a champ...However, his breath is REALLY smelly. As in, his fur stinks after he's groomed and I can smell his yawns from 3-4 feet away. Could his yellow teeth cause the horrible breath alone? Does the yellow mean he could be pain?

Aside from his more frequent fits, he is normal. Litter habits are all fine and no other symptoms at all.

How about you take him to the vets?  Really vile breath isn't normal, could be all sorts of things causing it.

Bad breath can be down to bad teeth, usually the most common but only a vet can verify this.Fudge before I had her had a lot of teeth removed due to them being rotten which caused her to have stinky breath apparently.x

We took our 7 year old calico, Dulcinea to the vet this past week because of the same thing---bad breath.  She had few signs that anything was wrong and the vet had said at her last check up (just a few weeks ago) that we should have her teeth cleaned.  We brought her to the vet and they extracted 4 teeth.  She's fine now and happy to be rid of those teeth.  Two teeth were broken and two badly infected.  Poor Dulcinea had been in pain for months perhaps and the only sign was that bad breath.  Take your cat to the vet!  It was worth every penny of the $500+ we spent.

Yeah, as I said...I will be taking him in next weekend. I hope my vet bill isn't that high! Isn't there stomach issues that can cause bad breath as well?

Yes, stomach issues can definitely cause bad breath...my Sven has CRF, which causes over acidity, and he has pretty bad breath.  But if you noticed his back teeth are yellow, that could be excess tartar/plaque build-up, which can also cause bad breath.  Sorry to say, dentals are not cheap...at least in my area.  But if the plaque build up is bad, it needs to come off or worse problems can arise .

My vet is probably the cheapest in Nova Scotia and will often let people make payments in a pinch or take some of the charges off. I've been going there a few years...and if she knows an animal is in pain, she will put their needs before the money. Here's hoping she will do it for me again. Thanks for the replies.

She was kind enough to take him in today even though I don't have money...She's doing blood work at the moment...but said he is anemic. I'm scared to know what might be causing it. She agreed that his FHS are likely because something is going on that is causing him discomfort. Hope its nothing serious :(

His blood test came back perfect...She said his heart rate is up, so I need to up his taurine intake. She tested him for FLV and FIV and both both came back negative. Anal glands and everything are good...basically anything she could check herself came back ok. She is sending his tests off so his kidneys, thyroid, liver and stuff can be checked out. I will find out Thursday if all that is good. So far though, the reasons for hit FHS symptoms remain a mystery.

Bless her heart, I didn't have to pay a cent today...and she is covering the cost of getting his results sent away.
