Hi ... I am so glad I found this site. As of this morning, I have a stray/feral dilema on my hands. There is a couple of cats that a friend of mine is feeding, & it is cold here in MN. The trailer court that she lives in has just out of the blue decided to trap the cats & kill them. There are 4 cats. There are 3 ferals possible & 1 stray. One is a tortiose shell feral possible, 1 is a white with spots feral possible, 1 is possibly gray in color also feral possible, & 1 is black with 3 legs. We aren't sure what the sexes of the 4 are at this time. The black one is definately a house cat that was thrown out. The other 3 have adapted but still need to find homes. My hubby
has agreed (not that he had a choice) for us to foster the 3 legged cat until we can find a home for him or her. The dilema I am in is that there are 4 strays & room for only 1.  Is there anyone in MN that has room for these other 3?

I was thinking, if you have facebook you could make a page advertising the cats situation with pictures of them, and ask your friends to spread the word and like the page, someone in your area is bound to see it and may be able to help, just be careful and screen everyone to make sure they have good intentions, perhaps ask to meet them in person first and if they are willing to show you there house setup if they want to adopt a cat. If you need help on how to make a facebook page let me know and i'll explain.

Update ...
Ok so as of today, these 4 are still on the loose. Being that it is Feb in MN, we don't leave the live trap out at night. That way there is no chance of the cats harming themselves or worse freezing. I went to town yesterday & got a bunch of supplies for these souls that we are trying to help out. On our way home my hubby says that he would like to be hands on alot with Tripod. .... Excuse me ~ Tripod??? He named the 3 legged one already.
Which means sight unseen, hubby wants to keep that one if a female. Our oldest Shadow at 11 going on 12, doesn't like boy cats. She never has. And he was worried that I would want to keep these strays instead of TNR & or adopt out. I love my cat loving hubby. He seems more excited than me about this venture. Right now I am just waiting on the call that 1 is in the live trap. Once that call comes in, I am off to rescue. A facebook page sounds like a great idea! But I have to get pictures of these guys first before I can do that.

Caliesmom....I live in Minnesota, in East Bethel but I can't take any, sorry I'm taking care of a feral cat of my own that I'm trying to socialize. And I also have another cat. But I will put out some feelers for you and see if I can find someone that might be able to help.  Where abouts do you live?  You are very lucky you have a Hubby thats OK with your efforts!  My Hubby isn't saying too much but I don't know how long he will be alright with keeping Tiger (my feral Kitty) in the sparebedroom!  If I have anything to say about it, it'll be as long as it takes!
.  Well, good luck with your plans, your a good person!  And I'll see what I can come up with.

Hi mieshasmom ... I am about 1/2 hour north of Detroit Lakes. Thanks much
So far no bites in the live traps. But I know it's not gonna' happen right away.
Patience & I have become quite chummy as of late. Our latest girl Calie was a throwaway. We have had her for 2 years now & still we can't pick her up or pet her. But I have made some progress with her lately. A couple weeks ago I started giving her tuna as a treat. And last night she jumped into my chair with me. Looking at me waiting for tuna. It is a great feeling when they start to break their wall of timidness & trust you. And now I am ready to take on the task of more feral/strays that need help. And as soon as we have them in our sights, we will take pictures so we can share with you guys.

Hi Teresa!!! Wonderful to hear that you have a cat loving hubby and that he is so supportive in your efforts. I will be praying hard that Tripod IS a female. BUT maybe Shadow would accept Tripod even if he is a he :dk:. Maybe Shadow would befriend the little lost and crippled darling. We can hope :cross: Heaps of vibes for successful trappings :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yes. My neigbour did had two somewhat shy females. One of them is a very eager revire defender.

Every cat nearing is immediately chased away, or if necessary, attacked.  Although she fight only around their house, nowhere else.

She also eagerly chases mices and other rodents around - including our place.  :)

Thus being in a way, the guardian around here.

One day we got know the neigbours took in a lone, sick, dumped black cat. The cat sough refuge at thair place, exhausted, laying down on their stairs. The cat got treatment, a home, a s/n, all the works.  :)

THAT was not peculiar at all, these neigbours are very friendly people, to people and animals. So I, although deeply touched, wasnt the least surprised.

The peculiar were, this extremely revir-protective resident didnt minded at all Blacke coming in and

getting a home.  It took a couple of month before they got friends, but she never ever molested him in any way...

Wonders do happen, and cats can be merciful for these weaker, their small bretrhens.

Good luck!  *vibes*

Got the call this morning about 11ish that we have cat. So I called the hubby, he asked if it was Tripod~I said I didn't know, & we headed to town to pick up the cat. We did have to stop & get another litterbox. But we made it over to where the live trap was. And lo & behold the 1st lucky recipient is the calico. Well, we talked to the person trapping the cats for us, made a plan for this one, hubby put the trap with the calico in the car & we headed home. We heard not a peep from the cage the whole trip. Got home, brought the live trap inside the house (the calico started meowing non stop), set up the calico's new home, & we proceeded to transfer from live trap to new home. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. But once we got that done, I got a bath ready for the calico. I was all prepared for a fight to get cat from cage to bath. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out the calico is friendly ... very friendly. And a girl. A kitten at that. Long hair, tortiouse shell, mats that still need to be removed, will do that after she is dry. The bath went well. Dirty then but clean now. I will be contacting the vet tomorrow about getting her spayed & shotted. Then to work on finding her a home. I added pictures of her before bath & after. As I said, she is a young kitten, very friendly, & so pretty. The pictures do not do her justice at all. The before bath is her on the box. After bath is in the lap. Of course the hubby is disappointed
that it isn't Tripod this time. I did tell him, maybe the next cat will be Tripod though.  Now to work on getting Tripod.

That is great news.  I agree, she is no feral, just a scared kitty.  She is beautiful,  I hope you find her a wonderful home.  Blessings to you and your husband.

Update ... I posted earlier but can't find it anywhere so if this looks dejavuish that is why. But ... we had our first night with the tortiouse shell. She did fine. I put her in the cage for the night with a blanket over so she would have privacy. But she only cried twice when my hubby put wood in the stove. Now this morning, she was all full of hi hi hi pet me pet me pet me. She knows how to use the litter box so that is good news.
Not much we need to do in socializing this one. Just to get her to the vet for shots & spay. Then to find her a home. Any takers? I will try to post pictures again of her from this morning.

She is beautiful!  She looks a little like my Miesha!  Wish I could take her but can't. I already have Miesha and a feral I'm trying to socialize, which I'm having some break throughs with. He let me pet him today!      Good luck though!                   Cathy

Tomorrow she goes to the Humane Society. They will find her a good home. It is still snowing up here with below freezing temps & a windchill. Hubby is hoping to trap Tripod so we can find him or her a good home now. I just have a sneaky feeling that the next few strays/ferals that we temporary home won't be as easy as tortiouse girl is. But that's ok too. The more we can help the better. Thanks for all the help guys with her. Your support is helping more than you know.

Hi guys ... another update here. We took the female tortiouse into the Humane Society this afternoon. She did great. They fell in love with her right away. And the Humane Society said they would take in strays when I had them. But they would not do ferals. I am not surprised. There are no places around here that know how to handle ferals. So at least I know they will take the strays that I end up with for now. After we left there, we went to return the live trap & reset it for the other strays/ferals there. We were thinking that it would be a couple days before any bites. But within 45 minutes, Tripod was in the live trap. The hubby was soooo excited.
He was doing a happy dance before seeing the cat. I saw him through the window carrying the live trap to the car & I swear I could have seen him skipping to the car. Tripod turns out to be a boy, black with white socks & a white chest I think. But he is missing his back left foot. He only has the top of his back left sock on.He caught his missing foot in the live trap & it was bleeding so we got him into the vet as an ER visit. But he checked out pretty good. All the bloodwork came back negative, he is not microchipped, & is set to be neutered & shots on March 2nd. 7 pounds, a bright coat, no fleas or heartworm. A pretty healthy little boy considering. Today's vet visit was a bit spendy. But well worth it considering what we are trying to do here. On the way home, hubby says he wants to keep Tripod but if someone claims him, he is willing to give him back but only if they pay for what we have put in with the vet expenses. I do want to get some newborn socks to put on his 'stump'. But Tripod is in the cage & has settled in nicely so far. He is going to have to be in the cage alot for the next 2 weeks until he is healed from being neutered anyway. Not a feral cat either. He turns out to be just as friendly as the tortiouse girl that we just had. And so far our 3 girls all seem to be ok with him. I am really surprised~even Shadow is ok with him tonight. Hopefully it will continue tomorrow. None of the girls has seen his leg with the missing foot yet. I will get pictures tomorrow & put up here. But tonight he was pretty tired from his day. Poor guy is snoring right now.
I may have to start a whole new thread called Tripod ...

Great news about the Humane Society and the tortie girl. I really hope she gets adopted quickly - poor thing has been through so much and deserves a good, loving home :heart3: :cross:

Congratulations on Tripod!!! I saw your other thread too. A suggestion, it might be easier to pick one or the other thread to do your Tripod updates - not both. Maybe since you just started the thread "Tridpod's Adventures" - keep the updates in that new thread now since he is now an indoor kitty :woohoo: Then people won't get confused with two threads on the same kitty!!! You can even post the link to Tripod's Adventures in this thread so people know where to go from here :D !!!! If you need help in doing that - just let me know....... :) So very happy for your gorgeous new tuxedo Tripod. What an adorable little guy  :vibes:

I'm not sure the missing leg would bother another cat.  I mean, I'm trying to imagine how it would, unless the tripod shows some real disability.  These things can be so complicated!
