Have you ever broken a bone?

It took me 43 years rolleyes.giflaughing02.gif, but I broke my finger a few weeks ago.

Several, unfortunately. I actually managed to fracture the same wrist twice in one year. Otherwise it's been my back, a couple of ribs, toes and fingers, and my nose.blush-1.gif

Oh lord, I've broken many.

In chronological order:

4 years old: I broke my leg while roller skating

8: Fractured my wrist falling off of a scooter

9: Broke my ankle tripping over a curb (...seeing a pattern here? I have no coordination at all)

11: Broke 3 toes at once the day before a dance recital and STILL danced!

12: Worst one to date - Broke my wrist while roller blading. I ended up having to get emergency surgery and having pins to hold it in place.

14-ish?: Broke my nose at some point, I think it was when I got hit in the face with a basketball in gym around this age. When I was 18, I told my mom about a weird bump on my nose that I'd had for years. I had a doctor look at it and he said I broke it at some point!

15: Here's a good one - Broke my foot tripping UP the stairs.

19: Broke my foot doing absolutely nothing. Seriously, I have no clue how it happened. I just woke up one day and it was hurting so badly! My mom said it was from re-injuring the spot I broke a few years previously.

This is not involving the 5+ times I've broken fingers (mainly in doors!), and the dozens (yes, really) times I've broken toes. LOL! I am a walking trainwreck. Ironically, my dad is an MRI technician and my mom is an x-ray technologist, so I have access to splints, x-rays, and medical advice! When I broke my foot at 15, I got a cast on and was NOT thrilled with it. I complained about it for a week and drove my parents nuts. Finally my mom came home with a cast cutter and took it off on our washing machine and gave me a walking boot instead. Hahaha.

I've never broken a bone, but had plenty of sprains.

Never completely broke a bone.... but had a fracture in my femur eek.gif from being kicked by a horse OUCH OUCH OUCH - the most painful experience of my life. My leg turned all sorts of colors all the way down to my foot. Pretty lousy - but a mild fracture and healed up well. I was very young - twenty. And I think my age helped in my recovery. Other than that - no broken bones KNOCK WOOD laughing02.gif

I broke my toe years ago, never did heal completely.

I've broken a couple ribs, my nose and some toes. All things that when you go see an MD they say there's nothing they can do and send you home with some pain pills

I broke a small bone down from by little toe when l misjudged the bottom stair about 10 years ago.

Urgh, l've went all funny thinking of it because l actually heard the bone crack as well  ohno.gif

Things like operations, blood etc... never used to bother me until then, because when l saw the x ray of the break l felt all faint. You just had to mention a broken bone to my Mum and she felt faint, so l think i've went the same way

Hope your finger is OK!

I broke my little toe on my left foot about 25 years ago when I was coming out of a convenience store. I had a pair of sandals on and my foot hit the corner of the cement parking barrier. My little toe ended up at a right-angle to the rest of my foot. The doctor just grabbed it, yanked it back to where it was supposed to be and taped it to my other toes. Hurt like a bugger for awhile.

Ew. Reading all of these is making me weak in the knees. ohwell.gif

I had broken toes a couple of times, up until my 50s, when I broke my left foot. I was carrying my bike down the steps in front of my building and missed the bottom of the step. Ugh. I went back upstairs, called a friend, saying, "I think I twisted my ankle" and immediately fainted. She came and took me to the hospital and it was broken. Weeks on crutches and wearing a boot.

Then, in 2006, I was in Edinburgh, Scotland, doing a play at the Fringe. I was playing Hillary Clinton as president. After the show, a bunch of us went to see some friends doing a show and as I was walking with them after the show I tripped down the curb and landed on my shoulder. I was lying there, with people gathering around and I said, "I think I really hurt my arm.... oh..... I think I'm going to faint." and I fainted. I came to with my friends all gathered around me, the cast in Elizabethan costume (the play was "Mary, Queen of Scots" and it was done outside), my friend Alistair in a ruffled collar, saying in his thick Scot's accent, "Nancy! Are ye all rrrrright?" Meanwhile, a guy I didn't even know was calling an ambulance, they came, got me into the ambulance, with our producer staying with me, and gave me laughing gas, as I was in alot of pain. All I remember was the EMT telling me to breathe deeply - being a singer and a runner, when someone says "breathe deeply", I really breathe deeply. Within 20 seconds, I was all, "Wow! This stuff is great!!!" biggrin.gif

They took me to the hospital, I got great care, and spent the next couple of weeks doing my show in a sling...... with one of our actors making an announcement before the play, "The President is wearing a sling. It's not part of the play. She had a little accident and broke her shoulder."

Last December I broke my little toe on my right foot, running to answer the stupid phone, which turned out to be a stupid recorded message, asking if I had heard of the new way to pay my electric bill. Aargh. I was running fast and caught my toe on the leg of the coffee table. If that had been a live person on the other end, they'd be dead now from shock at the language coming out of my mouth.

Thank goodness, no, "but I'm only 42", so, like you said Karen, it took you 43yrs. I hope it never does.   cross.gif   I have a small pain tolerance.

Hope your finger feels better! :)

Wow some people have bad luck with their bones! Touch wood, I haven't had a serious accident. I do suspect I broke my big toe a few years ago when I missed the bottom step and fell back, dropping an armload of heavy painting equipment on it. It went interesting colours and hurt for a while, but I figured there's nothing a doctor could do so I didn't bother getting it checked out.

I have not, knock on wood!
