My kitty has been biting and licking his lower abdomen and inside of his hind legs. His diet has been changed to a diffferent brand, different flavor, and grain free wet canned food. I comb him for fleas each day, and he has been to the vet. I'm supposed to pick up some Flovent to spray on his skin as a treatment. This spray is normally for kittys with asthma, which peaked my interest as to how effective it is, when used in a different way, almost like an ointment you rub on the skin. Anyone heard of this? Safe? I'm also supposed to begin giving benadryl each day. How long is benadryl safe to consume day after day?

I've not heard of Flovent before so just googled it. Since it is a steroid that is used to reduce inflamation in the lungs, I suspect your vet is using it to reduce the inflamation in the skin. If it is safe for inhaling, I would assume that your vet picked this one to be safe on his skin in case he licks himself. I also do not have experience with giving benedryl to cats so have no idea how long it can be used with them. I know that personally, I can't take benedryl, as I have bad reactions to antihistamines - they give me wild mood swings when I take them.

Sorry, I have no experience with this so am only guessing. If you are concerned, you might call your vet and ask, particularly about possible adverse reactions from either medication.

This is very interesting to me since my Lucas has skin Lupus and stress causes him to itch and scratch all over.  He has been on every diet available and the problem persists, my Lucas is on oral steroids so I think it will help a lot if he could use something like this for his skin, it is so red and irritated.  I will definitly talk to my vet about this.

Thanks for sharing.

Hmmm...  Never heard of, or had to use Flovent but now my curiosity is piqued and I am going to research it a bit more.  As far as I know, the benedryl can be used pretty much indefinitely.  I might be wrong on this so research it a bit more.  My reason for saying this is because I had a dog that had a severe allergy to grass of all things.  The vet told me it was safe to use indefinitely.  Okay so that is my experience with it but don't go by that.  Get as much info as you can from your vet and others with cats that have the same issues. Sorry you have to go through this
