I'm calling my vet tomorrow to answer my question, but I'd still like anyones thoughts on this subject, whether it's theirs, or something they've been told in the past. If my cat needs 6 weeks to stop itching from certain food, is benadryl really safe for that long every single day???

I really don't know the answer to that..... I do not think that I would want to use the Benadryl for six weeks though ..... That does seem like much too long. Hopefully others with experience in using Benadryl will come along soon :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: For you kitty :rub:

I appreciate your thoughts. I also have no doubt that someone here knows. I couldn't find the answer in the archives here however. Not that it matters.

Over the river and through the woods...
Did your vet recommend it and at what dose? I know it's safe for dogs (according to my vet) because Brooke (90 lb dog) has skin allergies and is getting one 2 benadryl and 2 baby asprin and 1 vitamin C to help her. Basically, the 2 benadryl knock her out. Heck, 2 benadryl knock ME out. But, I haven't seen any long lasting affects, she just sleeps VERY good at night but is awake and alert and not chewing in the morning so it seems to be working. Evening is when we seem to have problems.

But anyway, I really have no idea about cats but I would think if your vet recommended it then it should be fine. I hope it's in a much lesser dosage though. I haven't seen any long term problems with Brooke but she only goes on that regiment when it's really bad so the max time frame is around 3 weeks. After that, things pretty much clear up for a while.

I hope someone here has an experienced answer for you, but yes the Vet is the best one to talk to.

I appreciate your thoughts and I agree with you. The best answer will come from the vet.
