Hi ... I was looking around & stumbled across this site a few nights ago. I'm hoping to find some answers, maybe support now & then, & generally just some other cat lover conversation. My hubby & I have 3 cats now. The latest one that we acquired is a stray we named Calie. We have had her now for almost 2 years. From the day we live trapped her, she has acquired quite the story. Calie was a throw away. We got her in March of 2010, & she will be 3 on August 15,2012. When we trapped her, we didn't know that she was pregnant. She was so thin she wasn't able to trip the trap, so my hubby had to use a string on the trap to catch her. Being a stray cat, we were not able to handle her. But she did eat, & with the help of our other 2 cats, Calie did learn how to use the litter box. There is alot more to her story, but right now I just want to say hi to everyone.

Welcome,

You and your husband are so good hearted to have rescued Calie. She has certainly come a long way. How does she get along with your other 2 cats?

Our other 2 cats are Shadow who will be 12 next month. She IS the top banana in our home. Shadow is a gray barn cat that I rescued from the pet store just hours after they brought her in. She was 5 1/2 weeks old~too young to be in a pet store away from her mama. Shadow had a brother with her that I talked my friend into taking. So in a sense we rescued both babies. Shadow due to her age & the fact that she fell off the bathroom counter & cracked her hip when she was 3 years old, spends alot of her time now on our bed with the electric blanket on 24/7. Our 2nd cat who will be 7 in September, I rescued from my daughter. She had taken the cat in to get fixed & declawed. I am against declawing, but I agreed to kittysit while she recovered from surgery. The kitten~named Bubbers~ kept chewing the bandaids off of her left foot. She was biting at the pads on her foot every chance she got. I ended up taking Bubbers into the vet multiple times due to the fact that her foot got infected from being declawed. Fast forward to a month later ... my daughter wanted to take Bubbers home but as soon as she came over to pick her up, she changed her mind. Because of Bubbers foot being deformed, I became her new owner. But I kinda knew that when I agreed to kittysit in the beginning. Bubbers foot only causes her problems when the weather is really cold. I think she has a touch of arthritis in it. But she does use her foot to her atvantage as much as she can get away with. She holds her foot up with a feel sorry for me look on her face alot. And my hubby is her human. Bubbers adopted him as soon as she saw him. She WANTS to be top banana. Bubbers is another story all in herself too. She is the clown of the bunch. She's the one that flushes the toilet everytime she goes by the bathroom. We think she paces the hallway at night just to flush the toilet. We can't get after her, cuz' everytime we hear it, we both start laughing.

But Bubbers adopted Calie when we rescued Calie in March of 2010. These 2 have been inseperable ever since. Bubbers thinks she is Calie's mom. Which is great. Thinking though that we need to have 2 bathrooms now, cuz' Bubbers taught Calie how to flush. Although right now, they take turns.

To answer ... our other 2 cats get along fine with Calie. They all 3 act like partners in crime quite often.

Aww.  Poor Bubbers!
That is so funny about flushing the toilet though!

Cats are neat about taking little ones in like their own.  My Mom had that happen when she adoped an adult cat a few days after bringing home a tiny, sickly kitten.  Of course now that grown kitten picks on his surrogate Mommy; but Ms Attitude (not her name; but maybe it should be...) deserves it sometimes too.

It's great that Bubbers and Calie are so close. So often,  they only tolerate each other but their bond is touching.

Welcome as well!

Two f my cats are abandoned cats.  Bender though wasn't afraid as many strays are.  I opened the garage door and in he ran!  Seems like you have a pretty lively bunch.

hi, I am new to the site and stumbeled across a discussion about ticked tabbies, which I have and she came from a local shelter. Most of our cats were all strays that found their way to our door.this is the first one I bought at a shelter, the two cats prior to her were rescues that my sister gave us.Prior to that it was my grandmothers cat so that is good but the local shelter is still really busy and I volunteer on Saturdays for that one.we haven't had any more come to our door luckily. I also have my girl on a diet cause she weighed 13.4 lbs.currently she is holding at twelve but they say ideal is like ten. Still trying to get her down to eleven which I would be happy with.  At almost seven, not sure how likely ten is. she has had multiple litters from the looks of it so I am not sure how slim we can get her relistically. She was finally fixed at the shelter at 2  years
