I just want opinions. Kittie was 5 lbs when my dad bought another dog from the shelter last January. The dog seemed great at the shelter. It wasn't until he got home he became more aggressive to his dog. His dog is the type of dog other dogs pee on. They really don't respect him I actually was hoping my dad got the dog named Benji out of the 3 we saw. Baby was a lot like the bull dog like not very social seeming. My dad wanted Benji and Baby. But Benji ended up peeing on him and was very aggressive to Baby. So he just got Baby... But he's so docile that when pushed he doesn't bite. Anyway the thing is his dog needs a companion but other dogs don't like him one thing we have in common lol. Well immediately when he got to their house he(Riley the new dog) tried to put Baby(the old dog) in his place of being inferior. He ate from his bowl barred him from barking at the door butt bumped him in the face humped him snapped at him when dad had given Riley attention got in front of Baby when dad gave him attention. He also initiated a fight with him but Baby ran out of the way and would never play with him or with anyone really besides us. He was a very dominant lap dog. But with Kittie he didn't do anything. Kittie had a room of her own because Baby is a medium sized dog and he is never really consistant. He always wants to bite her tail. She runs and he wants to chase her. He sometimes at night would bang on her door and other days he's alright especially if he has hot dogs or is lonely. Well the first morning Baby had to get groomed for the first time. I let Riley in Kittie's room. He was fine. She was more aggressive because he was in her/my room. He didn't eat out of her bowl he ate around it. Both dogs love cat food idk why really. Wish Kittie thought like that. He's a Chihuahua mix bony but bigger than my cat he is 8 lbs which s almost double her size. She looked at where he was the inferior and he was scared of her. He never snapped at her and at the end of the day they were able to free roam. I let them freeroam whenever Baby was gone and nothing happened they even ate comfortable with. It wasn't until the last time he entered her room. He had several times he was put in the bathroom or spare room because he tried to bother Baby with eating out of his dish butt bumping or because he couldn't go to sleep peacefully he had to sleep near one of us and he tried to be closer to me. I'm scared of dogs so that's not comfortable and dad tried to push him away because Baby would be pushed away if Riley got attention. Well he entered her room that last time and he snapped at Kittie when she was sniffing him. I corrected him like I corrected her the times she acted aggressive. Well I put him out and my dad called him out immediately to eat the ground turkey he was feeding Baby and shortly after they're eating Riley attacks Baby bites him in the eye twice Baby bites as well idk who did what I was still in the room with Kittie. And Baby had to go to an emergency animal hospital because it was a Sunday night I think. The night before that he had tried to attack Baby. Riley and Kittie were home again. I felt sorry for Riley because it seemed dad abandoned him. I guess he was my responsibility in dad's eyes, but I can not really discipline a dog. It would go the other way around they're very heavy and have sharp teeth I already dealt with a puppy when I was younger and I was her #1 hate. It never works. Well that night Kittie and Riley were free again. And he was fine with her. He stayed away from her if I tried to get them closer he'd  growl though. She was on my lap for a while and he didn't show any jealousy. He just stayed away. Well Baby came back that vet didn't do anything just confirmed he was bitten. Baby is a Lhasa Apso btw a small dog but not a toy like Riley was. He was a solid 21 lbs and 14 inches. Several times while attempting to play with him he sent him flying the other way. He had a lot more power against the dog yet ended up in the ER two nights in a row costing my dad 700 bucks in the injury. He had to wear a lampshade on his head for a week and had several pain meds because of this. Well that next day after the attack it got worst. Riley Baby me dad and Kittie went on a long cat ride. Baby fears cars and my Kittie had to stay in a carrier for 7 hours all to move in a different apartment or apartments. They're conjoined together. One is mine one is his. He asked that I take care of Riley for the night or until he finds a new home for him. Anyway when we got their everyone was tense even dad because the landowner cheated him. I was getting Kittie out of the carrier her litter food and drink were all down Riley's was too in his bowl. He is usually an obedient dog. He had eaten and left food in his bowl he wasn't hungry. He started eating her food I moved the bowl but he locked his mouth on my shoe. I lost balance and felt like it was either fall and loose control and hold of Kittie and that would be a lot worst so I kicked his head backwards hitting the wall and then he was snarling and growling and so I pushed him out of the room... And told dad I couldn't help him with Riley. I am scared of dogs who bite. Baby never bites well besides knuckle bone. I felt like I failed my dad. But he seemed more aggressive that day towards both me and Kittie snarling before that all because of a new place. That next day my dad called some agency to remove the Riley because he acted even worst. He started growling at dad and jumping at him... And the shelter said if I hadn't had my shoe they wouldn't be able to find him a new home if he made a mark. Anyway do you think I panicked too much? My dad got upset said I was a wimp for being so cautious but to me I didn't want to risk 700 on Kittie plus a week of pain and torture.... I don't do well with dogs as pets why I've never bought one. Idk what do you think?

Hi... I'd like to respond to your post but it's really visually hard to follow, because you have no paragraphs. Just fyi, if you could go back and break it up into paragraphs of 6 or 7 sentences each it would be way easier to follow. :)

I guess I tried here. My main subject is that was I too protective over Kittie? Should I have tried another approach?

I would do the same.  Good on you.  I would protect my cats no matter what.

I believe that cats and dogs can do very well together, and many will tell you their experiences of that.

But dogs can be different too.  Sometimes there are just aggressive dogs (and yes, it's not their fault and there are reasons).  But it's not your fault too.  So, I'm glad that you got rid of the aggressive dog.

If one wants to have cats for companions - one should consider all there is so that kitty is happy and not in danger.  Cats are small animals and easily hurt, but they are also persons.  It's not fair to them to have a household of dogs anyway and poor kitty being locked away because of that.  Cats are free spirits, and if they are inside only - they should be able to go anywhere in an apartment, have scratch posts, toys and attention.
