Precious, 16, is in CRF.  I've been giving Remeron with little success.  About two weeks ago I tried moving her from K/D back to Nutro.  And for a couple of days it worked - she ate like a trooper.  Then stopped.  Then started throwing up water and hovering over the water dish.

So, we went to the vet this morning; not her regular one, but his associate.  I figured it was better to take her in where she at least knew the staff and the smells, even if she didn' t know the vet.

To make a long story short, Precious is now on sub-Q fluids (I may continue them at home depending on how the next few days go), got a shot to help with stomach acid and nausea, tagamet, and A/D.  She also recommended a suppliment (Renavast) that I've ordered; and said that we could do sub-Q 2-3x week and add an additional pill which will hyperperfuse the kidneys.

Precious ate about a tablesoon of the A/D and is once more curled up on the UPS.

This roller coaster of CRF is enough to make me insane.

I am sorry :( you are going through this.....
I would imagine the vet also said Nutro was not a good idea at this point and to go back to K/D? Was that working fine? If it was...... that's something I would do..... If 2 days of Nutro/out of K/D caused that havoc..... seems to me K/D is a good step back to go to.... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hi Carolina.  I switched to the Nutro because she wasn't eating the K/D even with the Remeron.    The vet was of the opinion that eating was good - no matter what it was.

When (not if) we get through this I'm considering blending 2-3oz cans of Nutro with one of the K/D.  More of a reduced phosphorus / protien diet, if she'll eat it.  The 2 Tbls of A/D was the most she's eaten in a week.

Be careful with the not eating - you have to feed her no matter what..... I do agree with the vet there...... There might be other options.... There is a thread going right now about low phosphorous foods that might help you http://www.thecatsite.com/t/240614/help-me-find-a-low-phosphorus-canned-food

Here is a link on assisted feeding: http://www.assistfeed.com/FeedingTechniques.htm
Do whatever it takes, but do not leave it up to her to eat..... she has to eat......
This food, Hi Tor, is highly regarded in the CRF community - have you heard? Hi-Tor :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
Good luck with your baby :hugs:

I'll look up the Hi-Tor and take a look at that thread.

Have you heard anything about RenAvast?  My vet seemed really positive about it as an intermediate step.  I have a bottle on order and should have it next week.

Thanks

I actually just posted the info for otto about Hi-Tor as well, although her kitty's problem is not CRF, so I am not sure if that is what she would be looking for.... Good option for you, I think.....
I have never heard of RenAvast..... :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Two tablespoons of A/D today + about 4 hours of grooming.  Never thought I'd get so excited to see Precious licking her tail.
