One of my cats has a problem with licking all the gravy in his food right away, which leaves the chunks of meat basically cemented to the plate. He licks all the gravy, then is in such a frenzy that he continues to lick the chunks until most of the moisture is gone. Once this happens, he can't get a good grip on the slick top side of the meat, and the bottom has been suctioned to the plate by the force of him licking the gravy off the top. This is only a problem sometimes, as the consistency and size of chunks in his Soulistic food varies considerably. The ones with tiny pieces of meat and lots of liquid get eaten in a heartbeat, while a large portion of his food is left over if there are a ton of big chunks to get stuck to the plate.

At first I thought he only liked the gravy, but I tried hand feeding him the remaining chunks of meat, and he finished them up without any fuss at all. Permanently hand feeding him is not an option, as much as he would eat it up (ha! pun), so does anyone have any ideas that could help me? Maybe I need a bumpy showermat-like surface so the chunks can't stick? I don't know, as this is not a problem I thought I would be having. My cat is just too zealous about his gravy!

Laurie's cats liked the gravy in the pouches and she would blend/whip the entire thing into a gravy - chunks and all and her kitties would lick it up. Perhaps that might be an option for you?

My kitty unfortunately will not eat chunks or gravy yet!

I had a cat that would just lick up the gravy. I just mixed and mashed it up together and that solved the problem. See if that will work :cross:

The gravy licking problem... I have it too but it depends on the brand of wet and the texture I feed them.  The feral cat is the worst about it.  She does just about the same thing your cat does.  I've found if I'm feeding a pate type food she eats much more of the food than she does with the chunks in gravy type of food.  I've also noticed with my other 4 that some will do the gravy licking with certain flavors of food.  What has worked best for me is to either chop the food into tiny pieces or feed them a pate type food.

I also do the mash thing. My husband laughs at me all the time because there I am laying out dishes and divving up portions, then I go down the line and mash it all into a pulp and feed the kitties. My cats hate chunks. Even if I feed them some chicken I have cooked I will sit there for an hour breaking it up into little tee tiny pieces because god forbid one of the pieces is considered too big they wont eat it. They have me so trained.

Lol,they do have us trained so well,I mash all their food down, its like they are babies, well they are our babies
Also Billy has a sensitive stomach and if I don't mash certain foods down and he eats them in big chunks he ends up being sick. I think its when you start mashing your other halfs food down then a problem arises because you are that used to doing it for the kitties
