I have noticed for a while now that my cats prefer to drink water from the opposite side of their water bowl in relation to where they are sitting. What I mean is, both cats will reach their heads completely across the water bowl, regardless of the bowl's size, and drink from the opposite edge. I use pyrex bowls and can see their tongues touching the glass, and I can feel a slick layer of saliva when I wash the bowls. Only one of my cats uses the drinkwell fountain (to my knowledge) and he licks the trap that is right in front of the impeller, which is on the back edge of the fountain's bowl.
I assume this is normal since both cats do it and always have as far as I can remember, but does anyone have an explanation for this behavior?

Here's the new finding about how cats drink. It said that cats move their tongue in a way to make the water shoot up into their mouth.
