My Cats are 4 months old right now. When we first brought them home from the shelter, they had accidents and were cage trained after that. Then they stopped having the problems and we let them roam free at night and purchased the enzyme spray to take it out of all the furniture and the coats they peed on. At about 2 months we got them fixed and started having the problem again, so we switched the litter and they stopped having problems. They were out of the cage still because they were doing well then we went through the same furniture/coat cycle with the special expensive sprays etc. THEN a month later, they started to do it again and it was sneaky, because usually I am pretty good at finding their mis-located pee. They were peeing in dirty laundry and their bed. So after thinking they were ok for at least a week now, my husband discovered that his coat smelled like urine again (which was hung on a chair), and we went through everything and sniffed the furniture like crazy people and didn't find anything but today I found 4 HUGE spots on the couch soaked in cat urine and their bed was literally dripping cat pee today after work. It's like they didn't even use either of the litter boxes we set out for them and clean regularly (there are 2 and we clean them once per day). Does ANYONE know what to do?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Hi Ivy Marie, welcome to TCS, although I'm sorry your having to deal with this issue.
There could be a few reasons why they're doing this, firstly, have they been to the vet recently to rule out urinary tract problems? inappropriate peeing is often the first sign of a urinary issue. If you've ruled out health probelms, a good article on the various aspects that could make a cat avoid the box can be found here: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/litter-box-maintenance
Just a few things to think about:
1. What type of litter are you using? Some cats absolutely hate certain litters and will hide and pee to avoid using them.
2. Do you use covered boxes? Some members here have had issues with the cat having a bad experience inside a covered box and avoiding the box after that.
3. Are the majority of spots on a flat surface or on vertical surfaces, like the hanging coat you mentioned? if it's vertical surface, you may have a cat who's spraying.
4. Have you had any big disruptions to your daily life lately? Cats don't deal well with stress and the inappropriate peeing may be a result of them being worried or stressed about something.
One thing you can definitely try if you haven't already is Cat Attract litter. Lots of members here have used it with really good results to lure a cat back to using the litterbox.
I'm sure some other members will be along soon to offer advice or experiences. Good luck!

Hi Ivy! Ms. Freya gave excellent advice and a good link for you to follow up with. A big problem is the "they" word. It could be either or both of the cats doing the deed. Also there is a difference between peeing and spraying. I posted in another thread about this very issue this morning so I will not repeat myself. When I had this problem with one of my cats I would observe him and watch what happened in the house before he decided to pee on the sofa. I'm pretty convinced my walking the dog first thing in the morning would cause him stress. I don't know why and mine is not to question the cat psyche
What I finally started doing was to give the cat attention *before* walking the dog and using a Feliway diffuser which releases hormones into the air to calm the cat. It worked like a charm. My problem was obviously do to stress the cat was feeling. Yours may be a completely different issue but just giving you the benefit of my experience.
