I managed to find myself in a situation where I made a quick decision. Now I have ended up with a 14 week old male kitten.

I bought him home and put him in the laundry and he seems alright. He's eating and drinking. The only issue is a belly ache (with slight diarrhea) and I figure this might be because he is not used to the wet food. I have put little kibble food on the plate now too with a tiny bit of wet so that he can at least get used to it.

I was firstly wondering, why on Earth he keeps meowing at me. I took him out of the laundry and let him roam the house, gave him a cuddle, cleaned his litter box, gave him fresh food and water, gave him a scratch, played with him and his new toys, let him meet my dog. I also took him outside and for a drive (which he seemed to enjoy - it was to get him some harder food).

He has finally stopped now as I think I wore him out and he is asleep. I am just worried that something is wrong.. Even as he was falling asleep he would meow. Does this mean anything bad or is he just a chatty cat?

I also have another question. I figure that he is mixed breed but there is some distinctive features about him and I am curious as to what he may actually have in him. On the internet, when I researched, I came to the conclusion that he closely resembles an Egyptian Mau. Anyone who is interested in helping me out and just, in general, helping me with gaining some knowledge about kittens, cats, what breed he is, and what on Earth I am supposed to be doing to be a good cat owner would be really appreciated.

Thanks :)

Remember that all pedigree cats came from non-pedigrees.  Maus are pretty rare cats, really it's more that a Mau resembles him a bit than the other way round.

Dodgy tum - really you shouldn't change what kittens are fed on when you get them, then gradually change over a couple of weeks once they've settled in.

Some cats are simply chatty, some can be very demanding!

Suggest you consult a vet about innoculations, worming and flea control, and also neutering in a couple of months.

Well, I am actually not sure what he was eating before. He just has a belly ache now. So my guess is the food. :)

The only reason I acquired him is because he was going to be put down. So I know very little about his parents or diet or anything. He seems to just be chatty. He doesn't seem to really want anything. He goes quiet when he is either falling asleep or playing with one of the toy's I got him.. Just sits and meows constantly. Should I get him checked out if it doesn't stop?

Also, When would be the best age to consider neutering?

In Sweden nowadays about 6 months, In USA about 10-12 weeks (minimum 2 pounds, ie 1 kilogram)...

So if you live in USA like most forumists, you can do it now whenever conventient, although it is no big hurry for several moths yet.   :)

Ps.  Welcome to the Forums!

Hi and tx for helping this guy!

The interpreting here depends much on his background... which we really dont know....

So, my guess he is meowing he was till now with the mom or siblings, so he miss them.  Alternatively with someone human who was friendly to him.   Missing.

Anyway, it is very common new bough kittens are meowing.  the only to do is to be extra motherly to them.  It repays heavily later on!   :)

The stomach and poo - may be he is unused to the food, but quite probable he has some worms.

If he is homeless born he has surely worms.

And very possibly also if he was born inside, but his mom was allowed to go out, and he wasnt properly dewormed.   They can get some worms from mom.

While other types they get from prey or from fleas....

I wouldnt not let him roam the house at yet. One reason it is good he gots used and feeling safe in one or at most two rooms.   Another reason is, he wasnt checked up by a vet, he wasnt defleased and de parasited...

By the same reason I wouldnt recommend to let him meet your residents..   Although Im very happy the meeting with the dog was apparently good, no big conflicts.   :)

He probably had met friendly dogs before.

So, a vet check up as quickly as you can, as the others said. Deworming and deparasiting. Preferably also vaccinating (occulating as someone said).   And keep him in Quarantine till he is entirely fleas -free.

(look in his ears. Are they clean and tidy or does he has black or brownish "coffe" - this is mites.

If he has mites, he has surely everything else too. If not - he is possibly already dewormed...

You want to know what he is a look alike?   Send pictures, we do love to see pictures.

Pictures for look alike you can place in the Breeders forum...

Although the answer will be with 99% he is a moggie - at best some look alike   :)

Good luck!   *vibes*

Ps! About deworming.

Let the vet recommend you something suitable.

Dont use Over the count produckts sold at common pet shops, they are often dangerous!

Some are OK, but you must know which...

So are some over the counter flea products but mostly there are ineffective and not much cheaper (in the UK) than effective safe products.  The FBA have a very good page on flea control:

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/fleas/info.html

And someone else suggested he might be lonely hence the meowing.  It hadn't occured to me but maybe yes, he is.  If there is room in your home and pocket for another kitten of about the same age you would be getting him the best toy ever - and saving another kitten.
