Hi y'all,
I'm slowly starting to get my cats used to raw food. Some of them have loved the chunked/semi-ground chicken breast and chicken thighs I gave them previously. Since they are getting other food as well, I haven't worried about getting the recipe "right" at this time. Raw is only part of their diet. I did add most of the vitamins/etc/ (E, B's, Taurine) to the last batch, and they seemed to eat it just fine.
I went on vacation for 8 days. During that time they had a lot of kitty crack (dry food) and some wet food. Now that I'm back, I mixed up a batch of chicken thighs and decided to add the bone meal to it. (My grinder is on back-order until the end of Feb.) The cats are eating some, but not with the gusto they did before. It might be just because we are "re-starting" the raw food, they might be eating too much kitty crack, or they may not like the flavor. If it's the flavor, it could be because this batch is just thighs, whereas before I added breasts to the mix. Or the bone meal could be changing the flavor.
So that's my main question - does bone meal alter the flavor?
I plan to chop up some breasts to add to the mix tonight. I'm also going to start taking up the dry food at night, so they are hungry in the morning. (The main problem with that is not the cats, but my spouse. She gets concerned that we're stressing the cats.)
Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm taking this transition VERY slowly, and focusing on getting the 5 young cats on raw food first. They are the easiest ones (little carnivores :-) ) to transition. The older cats will be a work in progress for many months.
