On Line Banking

Thread Starter

Question:   Do you pay bills on line?   I know many people do, but I have just never felt safe doing that.    I don't charge things on line either.    To me it's no big deal to write a few checks each month and mail them.   Maybe I'm being old-fashioned --- but I just always feel there is a danger of something going wrong with on-line banking.  Same with charging things on my credit card on line.      Am I living in the past or do some of you feel the same way.

Online banking is safe. I've been paying my bills and taking care of other banking needs via the internet for several years.

I just make sure that I always go to the site by clicking my bookmark. I never click a link in an email I've received, even if it is one that my bank actually sent me.  If I get an email from my bank about something, I go to my bookmarks and go to the bank's site that way.

The password I use to enter the site is very secure using a combination of large and small letters and numbers all mixed up.

And when I'm finished banking, I delete my cookies.

Of course I take other precautions too.  I have a good virus scanner that I keep updated and run twice weekly. I also run an antimalware program to get rid of adware and potential threats.

I do everything online. It is so much quicker and easier than any other way. I do normally do it at work though because I figure the firewalls are a lot more secure at a giant company than at my house.

I do 99% of mine online. I have for a very long time. I also order things weekly off of one website or another including cat food. I do not however have autowithdraw on anything because I like being in control of it going out.

I do all of my banking online, bill payments and will also often purchase things on line. I have a good virus scan program and will only use websites I trust. I've never had any problems with it, and I find it much easier to keep track of all my payments and everything.

The only thing I write a check for is my rent and to my church. But I can now use my debit card at church! Everything else, I pay online. It is fast and convenient

I use online banking, but we have a system here in the UK called Direct Debit where your bank takes money from your account to pay your gas/ electric etc...., so l do it that way and it's much easier

Obviously l know the amount that's coming out and you can pick the date for it to leave your account, so my gas/ electric comes out on the 15th of each month, my house and contents insurance the 22nd of each month etc..

I pay most of my bills online. It's so much easier than remembering to write a check, and remembering to mail it! I have my mortgage, electric, life insurance, pet insurance, and all the rest of my fixed amount payments directly debited from my account. I sign on, and pay other things one by one on my banks payment site.

I write a check at church, lunch tickets for my kids at school, and pay cash for home heating oil-since I get a discount for cash.

I've never had a problem with the banking online system.

Rick is in "big-charge" of our bills and he writes out checks....he won't pay them online. We still get pay checks, too, as that's the way he wants it. Fine by me...I don't care one way or the other.

We have a credit card with a very low limit that I specifically use for online purchases and nothing else. Our other credit cards are never used online.

I do 99% of my banking online. The only thing I have to write a check for is my tithe to church, and my water bill. Everyone else does Direct Debit...

I have Chase and I think they are just absolutely wonderful. They even have a "grace" period of 24 hours for overdrafts (Pay the overdraft amount within 24 hours) and no fees.

I also use PayPal for alot of transactions and so far I have never had a problem with any online banking. It is just easier for us- to not have to remember to send in a check.

I do most of my banking online. I just switched over to Bank of America from a state credit union (as I split off a joint account, as well as went to find a bank that is more national) and am thinking of setting up auto-pay for some stuff now that we get paychecks on alternate weeks, meaning there's always money coming in on Fridays. I have always been the one in charge of bills since moving out, and I'm good at keeping up with it, but online banking makes it even easier.

I enjoy it, although I don't mind writing checks here and there either. I don't pay ALL of my bills online (and just had a bad experience paying rent through an online system so I won't be doing that again  Their system messed up and we got charged a $125 late fee for it!) Never a bad experience buying things online using a credit/debit card either. I like the convenience of it.

I pay everything but my rent online.  I don't have autopay I go online and pay everything each month.  It hasn't happened for a long time but if I need to be late on somethings I like having that option. I have been paying everything this way for probably 8 or 9 years and haven't had any problems so far.

You are not living in the past.  I never pay anything online.  I don't order anything because I do not to put my numbers out there.  Like you, a few checks a month...no big deal.  I get this from my dad.  He never paid with checks even...cash always and in person.

I pay everything online. Its easier for me because I am the one in charge of the budget and finances and I have a nasty habit of putting my checkbook in weird places, plus our mail person is horrendously unreliable. I never do anything auto pay, I need to have control of what comes out when because some bills get paid ahead of time because of how our pay days fall. I also use my debit card for everything because I have the numbers memorized, I dont save my information on the websites even though they are secure so its easy for me to just punch my card number in and authorize the payments. Plus df isnt allowed to pay bills because him and mental math are not friends so he would pay a bill and it wouldnt come out right away and if he checks his balance at a mac machine and it says he has $300 but in reality he has $100.....we would be in a world of trouble. As of right now we have never over drawn our account because I keep such maticulous records of our budget, plus I round up so if a bill is 78 and change then I budget it out as 80 dollars. He rounds down for everything, so when we go shopping and he says something is so much money I have to double check because its always more than what he says. LOL

I dont think using checks is old fashioned, its a matter of personal preferance. I know if I didnt trust the company sites that I use or if I had to use a public computer then I would never pay my bills online. My home computer is automatically locked everytime I shut it down and the only people with the password is myself and df and noone is allowed to use our personal computers ever.
