My adult male(4 years old) has suddenly become very aggressive toward our 6 month old who we just had castrated today. As soon as we brought the kitten home from the vets the adult has done nothing but hiss and growl at the kitten. They had previously got on very well, I am so worried and don't know how to deal with this, Any advice would be appreciated

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Hi there
Please don't worry, this is a perfectly normal reaction
Cats recognize each other primarily by smell. Your younger cat smells very strange to your older cat right now. It's a combination of the vet's office smell and the drugs/chemicals they used when they did his surgery. Your older cat probably realizes on the inside that the younger cat is indeed his friend, but since he smells so weird to him, he is confused about his identity. In essence, he smells like a new, strange cat he's never met.
The aggression should wear off after a few days as the vet smell does. The drugs will have to get out of his system for a bit. In the meantime, you can put the little one into the bathroom by himself for a day or two so he can recover in peace. If that isn't possible, you can put a dab of vanilla extract under their noses and at the base of their tails so they smell the same to each other. I would do both.
Finally, welcome to TCS!!

Thought I would add that a bit of talcum powder works the same as vanilla if you don't have vanilla handy.
Thank you so much I feel better about this, it was such a shock and so out of character, I will get some vanilla extract in the morning and post the results. thanks again :-)
Thanks for the tip, don't have either vanilla or talc will get both in the morning and let you know how it goes, thanks again :-)
