Just took in a feral kitten - picture blog with daily progress

Greetings!

I recently took in a feral kitten who's mother was killed by a coyote.  It's too much to post pictures and details on every forum, so I made a picture blog.

:)

What a cute Baby!

I enjoyed your Indy blog - it was nice to read about her progress.

Oddly enough, I also took in a feral kitten on Saturday evening,

but I didn't take photos or notes... now I wish I had!

Mine earned the name "Goober" because when he first started to come for dinner,

he was in such a hurry to get to his soft, warm food that he would step in the bowl!

Fortunately, he no longer has that habit wink.gif

Oh, I like your cat tree - did you heat treat the branches somehow to avoid bringing unwanted guests into the house? I have been thinking about making some out of natural branches, but I've been struggling with the unwanted pest situation.

Hope Indy continues to progress nicely - I'll keep an eye on her blog site!

That tree I purchased from Furwood Forest.  I have two 19 pound Maine Coons and needed a tree sturdy enough to handle them launching themselves from etc.  All his trees are custom made and he is a true cat lover and a real pleasure to deal with.

I love the internet - was searching for reviews on "Furwood Forest" cat trees (I want to order for my adult Maine Coon and two rambunctious Ragdoll kittens), and came across this. I'm already hooked on Indy's progress, and will be following. She sounds like a keeper, and a very lucky little girl!

Indy is utterly to-die-for cute! She's the same coloring as my little feral I've been working with for the last year. I started with Mitten when she was 2.5 though!

Got Indy spayed yesterday, she was in heat already at 14/15 weeks old!!!  Perfect bill of health.

She came home with an e-collar but was not having any of that, so we removed it.  Monitored her all day, no licking or touching the stitches.  Came in this morning, and she did manage to get one stitch out :(  but the cut looks real good, not opening, no bleeding or leaking or anything.  Picked up some Bitter Apple Spray for Cats and sprayed that on and she won't touch it now.  We'll continue to monitor and take her in if needed for a touch up.

Blog updated with more details :)

Today we opened the door again for Indy to come out and explore, except we only locked up 3 of our 4 cats. We left Thumper out to meet Indy. In the pecking order of our 4 cats, Thumper would be the bottom of that order. She's just a big kitten herself, only 4 years old.

Instead of Indy coming out, Thumper surprised us and rushed right in. Indy was thrilled! After Indy lost her mother, she tried so hard to be accepted by the other outdoor (feral) cats. They rejected her and were very mean to her. So Indy used to stare at Thumper through the window before we trapped her.

Thumper and Indy sniffed noses right away, and then Thumper walked around sniffing the room with Indy following her, chirping happily.

The even played together for about 5 minutes, before Indy starting getting into hyper-active mode so we took Thumper out and closed the door.

I updated the blog with pictures of the above encounter :)

I check the blog at least twice a day-lol Indy is just so stinkin' adorable! I'm so glad she and Thumper are friends! My little feral-turned-house-cat Mitty was all alone too, as soon as she met my boy Sneezer through a baby gate she wanted in to be friends-lol

Indy is pretty much fully integrated with the rest of the cats now.  This whole process really went smoother then I expected.  The only thing left we are really working on is getting her used to being picked up and held.

We even clipped her nails!  She was scared the first time, flinched every time it clipped. She'll get used to it though.

More info and pics on the blog, updated today.

Well, socialization is complete.  Indy is no longer a feral kitten.  I refer to her as my ex-feral kitten now.  She is a fully integrated part of the family now.

Blog updated, possibly for the last time since the transition is complete.
