Lucas could have hyperthyroidism, I need some info please....

Ok, I'm up and I hardly slept tonight. I will call the vet today, I need answers soon. I have to say the reason Lucas is this sick is because he needs his prednisolone, he has all the sypmtoms of his Lupus right now, his eyes, his mouth, a fever, everything. He is also vomiting, what the vet wants doesn't work for Lucas, he can't be without pred everyday. Maybe we will be able to give him a lower dose later on, but I think now there are many things going on in his body and giving him less pred will be bad for him right now.

Yes Carolina , Lucas was without pred for a whole day and his body cant take it. Yes , it was a 6oz can, but still, he normally eats more than that, Lucas is an eating machine and he always wakes me up before 6 in the morning to feed him, and he hasn't done that in days.

He is lethargic and he didin't want to eat this morning, I gave him his NB that he likes and nothing. I think I will go buy some z/d today, he loves it and I need him to eat. If he doesn;t eat it I will have to offer him some kibble, he needs to eat.

Oh God what a night, I know it sounds neurotic, but I woke up every time scared and checking Lucas because I was afraid he was going to die in his sleep, he looked so depressed.

Please God let that test be ready today.

Tammy, if he is so bad, then you need to take him to the vet right away - he can not be like this, and the vet needs to see him to understand that - this is the new vet, right?
Meanwhile hun, you have to calm down..... I know it is very very hard..... But for Lucas, you have to calm down because your stress stresses him even more. I can see this so clearly on my kitties..... They are like little sponges.... I physically need to remove myself from the situation.... Go outside, do a little meditation, go for a drive, take deep breaths, then come back centered and calm. Only then, also, you will be able to think clearly.
If I were you, I would take Lucas to the vet right away. Or, I would just give him prednisolone, if you think that is what is wrong, and end his suffering. However, you might not be 100% right here..... something else might be going on.....
My opinion Tammy..... Lethargy.... lack of appetite, fever.... vomiting.... that right there calls for a vet visit IMHO.

HI Carlolina, all he needed was the prednisolone, I gave it to him this morning and he is looking better already and he ate. He can't spend a day without that pill, he needs at least a low dose everyday.

I could have taken him to the vet and I will if he continues to get sick, but I knew it was he lack of pred what was causing this, I know this boy well.

Yes, I know, I need to calm down, I will do everything in my power to not let my stress affect him. It is just so hard because I"m a very impatient person.

Tammy, make sure you tell that to the vet - he needs to have that in his files - maybe the plan should be to reduce the daily dose..... that can be a compromise :nod:

So glad you know him so well, Tammy, and he's feeling better already. :nod: I do think maybe at some point lowering the daily dose may be the way to go. But clearly the vet's suggestion isn't working.

Thank you Carolina and Laurie. I called the vet and they still don't have Lucas' thyroid results

He said that they could be in tomorrow. I told him about the prednisolone and he told me to give it to him daily for now. I know he needs at least 2.5 mg a day to be ok. He is on 5mg right now.

It is crazy how he gets without the pred, you should see his eyes, is like he has an infection and once you give him the pred it goes away. Also his mouth, he has a dark thing that look like dirt around his mouth this morning, and now it is going away. That is the stupid Lupus making my baby suffer.

I hope he calls me tomorrow with the results, I'm trying to stay calm, for lucas's sake.

. OH MY GOSH what a night you have had. You DO know Lucas so well and you knew he needed that Pred. Aw Sweetie - now the vet will believe you. He just needs it and that is all there is to it :hugs:

:rub: I am glad that he is a bit better this morning and continues to improve as the day goes on so you can get a good night's sleep. I am sure this is just a constant worry for you and I am holding you and Lucas very close at heart :heart3:.... Yes - just stay calm for your baby - lots of deep breath. He will pick up on your nervousness. I am sure you will have those results tomorrow - so today you can just relax and just concentrate on making yourself and Lucas happy for today and now that he is back on the Pred - it will be a good day :hugs:

Thank you all, Lucas is doing a little better and he has been eating well, but he is extremely stressed and nervous. Last night he was sleeping on my bed as usual, and I felt something move, it felt like the bed was moving, so I I checked Lucas and he was shaking, his whole body shaking, (having tremors must be the right way to say it, pardon my english). So I turned on the light and I gave him a dose of the Anxiety relief natural drops that the vet prescribed and I started talking to him softly, telling him how much I love him. It worked! In minutes the tremors stopped so I asume it was like an anxiety attack he was having. It had happened before in the past, and I didn't know what it was, I had mentioned it to my previous vet and he didn't even pay attention to him.

Sadly, the test results are not ready yet, I'm so upset! I called again today, and they said it hasn't arrived. I don't understand why it has taken so long! I think it takes like a week to be ready then, because he told me he ordered the test on Tuesday. I just hope they call with the result on Monday then, there's nothing I can do, my hands are tied until they give me that result.

Tammy, though I don't post much anymore, I follow your journey with Lucas. It is both sad, and inspiring. It is sad that both you and him have to go through all this, trying to bring him to good health. You have been through so very much, for so long. But still you persevere, doing all you can to help him, make him comfortable, and happy. You keep looking for answers, and when it turns out to be a dead end, you keep on looking and trying, hoping and questioning.

The inspiring part is that you don't give up, no matter how discouraging it has been. Your love for Lucas comes through and drives you on, looking for his cure. In spite of his health problems, he is a lucky cat, in the best of all possible homes. He adores his meowmy, as well he should.

I am confident that you will find the answer for treating and managing his health problems, and you both will then have many happy and contented years together.

Hi. Methamazole saved my kitties life. There were no side affects except for he was able to put on more wieght like he needed to and manage the Hyperthyroid. Without his Methamazole, his Hyperthyriod would have been deadly. Of coures it is given in pill or liquid form. Mine took the liquid twice a day. It is really no hassle. Just a quick dose before breakfast and then again before dinner. It takes about 10 seconds at the most. When they get used to it, 3 seconds. He went on to live a normal life after that.

I'm not sure what the web says about Methamazole, but the doctors always tell me to stay away from the internet concerning issues like that. I truely see no problem with Methamazole. I honestly saw it save my cats life. I think that Lucas will do well with it.

And here's to hopes that they get you those results right away!!!!!

Hi Lovesmycats2, your words also makes me stronger and give me faith that Lucas will be ok with this treatment, if in fact he has Hyper-T. I've been afraid because 5% of cats get complications with it and since my lucas is a weak boy because he has Lupus also, I worry, but reading experiences like yours help so much! I"m so glad your baby is doing ok with the treatment, that made my day

That's a glass half empty way to look at it. The glass half full way is that 95% don't get complications, they get better. Thats 19 / 20 cats that don't have complications.
