This was him  sleeping

Thank you all,  Lucas is doing a little better and he has been eating well, but he is extremely stressed and nervous.  Last night he was sleeping on my bed as usual, and I felt something move, it felt like the bed was moving, so I I checked Lucas and he was shaking, his whole body shaking, (having tremors must be the right way to say it, pardon my english).  So I turned on the light and I gave him a dose of the Anxiety relief natural drops that the vet prescribed and I started talking to him softly, telling him how much I love him.  It worked!  In minutes the tremors stopped so I asume it was  like an anxiety attack he was having.  It had happened before in the past, and I didn't know what it was, I had mentioned it to my previous vet and he didn't even pay attention to him.

Sadly, the test results are not ready yet, I'm so upset!  I called again today,  and they said it hasn't arrived.  I don't understand why it has taken so long!  I think it takes like a week to be ready then, because he told me he ordered the test on Tuesday.  I just hope they call with the result on Monday then, there's nothing I can do, my hands are tied until they give me that result.

Hugs to all

Tammy, though I don't post much anymore, I follow your journey with Lucas. It is both sad, and inspiring. It is sad that both you and him have to go through all this, trying to bring him to good health. You have been through so very much, for so long. But still you persevere, doing all you can to help him, make him comfortable, and happy. You keep looking for answers, and when it turns out to be a dead end, you keep on looking and trying, hoping and questioning.

The inspiring part is that you don't give up, no matter how discouraging it has been. Your love for Lucas comes through and drives you on, looking for his cure. In spite of his health problems, he is a lucky cat, in the best of all possible homes. He adores his meowmy, as well he should.

I am confident that you will find the answer for treating and managing his health problems, and you both will then have many happy and contented years together.

Kiss you adorable boy on the nose for me, and many hugs to you.

The vet just called me with the results of the Thyroid test and he told me it was high and that he order another test so he could give me a proper diagnosis, he thinks Lucas could have Hypertiroidism and I'm so sad, dissapointed , worried out of my mind.

I've been reading about the possible treatments and I worry about the side effects.  I also read about the symptoms and Lucas has some of them, the nervousness, thirst, appetite, urinating a lot.  I know they are also side effects of the prednisolone, but I worry.

I read about the medication : methamizole.  I'm  I wrong or did I read here that it has awful side effects?  Please, any information  you can give me will be greatly appreciated, I wan't to have some knowledge of things before talking to the vet.  He will call me again as soon as he gets the definitive results.

Thanks in advance!

Hugs!  Tammy

Hi.  Methamazole saved my kitties life.  There were no side affects except for he was able to put on more wieght like he needed to and manage the Hyperthyroid.  Without his Methamazole, his Hyperthyriod would have been deadly.  Of coures it is given in pill or liquid form.  Mine took the liquid twice a day.  It is really no hassle.  Just a quick dose before breakfast and then again before dinner.  It takes about 10 seconds at the most.  When they get used to it, 3 seconds.  He went on to live a normal life after that.

I'm not sure what the web says about Methamazole, but the doctors always tell me to stay away from the internet concerning issues like that.  I truely see no problem with Methamazole.  I honestly saw it save my cats life.  I think that Lucas will do well with it.

Hi Robin, thank you so much, you have no idea how much your words mean to me.  I have to admit I read your post  like 5 times, it gives me strenght to continue fighting for Lucas health.  You are right, it is the love I feel for him that keeps me going, I can't , I refuse to give up on him.  I love him soooooo  much! Hugs to you and your kitties:)

Hi Lovesmycats2, your words also makes me stronger and give me faith that Lucas will be ok with this treatment, if in fact he has Hyper-T.  I've been afraid because 5% of cats get complications with it and since my lucas is a weak boy because he has Lupus also, I worry, but reading experiences like yours help so much! I"m so glad your baby is doing ok with the treatment, that made my day:)

Hugs and thanks!

Tammy

That's a glass half empty way to look at it.  The glass half full way is that 95% don't get complications, they get better.  Thats 19 / 20 cats that don't have complications.

Thank you Robin and thank you Lauren, your kind words always lift my spirits, you are all wonderful, amazing friends:)  I need the support because  as always most of the people around me think I'm insane and obsessed with Lucas, they think I'm crazy because they would never do everything I'm doing.  In fact, I haven't told anyone but my Mom , brother and sister in law that I took him to the new vet and about the possible new diagnosis.  I prefer not to tell because they look at me like I'm from mars.

Lucas is a little stable, but he looks weak and thin, he is eating, but he is loosing weight, is not a lot, but I can tell he is loosing.  I didn't sleep well last night because all he wanted was to sleep very close to me and I didn't want to disturb him, so I stayed in an uncomfortable position so he could sleep.  He didn't have tremors thank God, but he wasn't feeling well because when he wants his mommy that much is because something is wrong.

I'm hoping the vet calls with the results tomorrow, I'm sick of waiting.

Tammy

My cat Jasmine had hyperthyroidism, she was on the methamizole for 2 weeks before it started to make her sick. I took her in for the radioactive iodine shot. She went in on a Monday and came home Friday. I could not hold her for a couple of months and had to use flushable litter, but when all was said and done she gained her wieght back and she lived to be 16 years old!  I know this is hard but you and Lucas will get through this and he will be fine! Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you!  I've been reading a lot about Hypertiroidism in cats because I need to know the disease and be informed in case Lucas has it.  I have to say,all the signs are there,  I have always searched online for skin problems in cats and I think I once saw that some cats with Hypertiroidism show skin problems, but I never thought that could be Lucas case because I guess I trusted the vet when he said Lucas had food allergies.

I read all the symptoms and out of 10, Lucas has 9.  It is just mind blowing.  The thirst, losing weight, increase urination, vomiting, overgrooming, looking depressed.  I mean, everything is there.  But I need the results.

I will wait until 10 am tomorrow and I will call the vet.  Lucas ate well today, but he has been  depressed and sleepy all day and he doesn't want anyone to bother him.

I will update tomorrow:)

Update:

I just called the vet and he wasn't in today, so they called him and he told them that the additional test he performed was negative.  I know I should be happy, but I"m not convinced of this.  I will go to the vet tomorrow to talk to him.  I want to get copies of the results and I want to understand the results.  I read online that some cats have hypertiroid and the test can come out negative.  I need answers.  I just know what the lady that works front desk told me, I need to hear from the vet.

I don;t remember well but he told me last week that the TSH was normal, but the T4 was 75 and it was supposed to be like 50, I don't remember well, that is why I need to go talk to him.  And I don;t even know the name of the third test he performed. I need all the info.

Will update tomorrow.

Ok thank you.  I'm very angry because the secretary or clerk at the vet's office that talked to me  didn't give me clear information and I want to know exactly what is going on.  I wish the vet was there today so I could talk to him.

ohno.gif I can't believe you have to wait yet ANOTHER day to speak to the vet and get all of these questions answered. mad.gif Oh Tammy - sigh.gif Hang in there. You absolutely 100% HAVE to get answers to all of your very important questions and have the vet explain everything to you down to the very last detail. There has to be something going on here with Lucas and his thyroid. I can't give any explanations as I don't have any experience with Hyper-Thyroid - but I can offer LOADS and LOADS of support. hugs.gifhugs.gifhugs.gifrub.gifrub.gifrub.gif Will be waiting in the wing's too to hear what your vet explains to you! vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

Thank you so much Lauren!  I just have had so many bad experiences with vets that I'm afraid of getting dissapointed by this vet too.  If he T4 was high there must be something wrong.  Now they say the definitive test was negative, so why was the T4 high?  I need answers.

NOw I'm afraid of Lucas having this disease and not getting the treatment because the vet think he doesn't have it, I hope he is not as incompetent as the other vets.  And I hope he agrees to talk to me. If Lucas needs another test or one of the test done again I will agree, I just need to make sure.  If he doesn;t have it I need to know for sure.

I think stopping by to get a copy of the reports and chat with the vet is a good idea. agree.gif A good vet will understand (and you can explain) that you're not questioning him or her, you're just a very concerned pet parent, and want to understand. heartpump.gif Nothing wrong with that! hugs.gif I am sorry you have to wait. I also work with vets that don't work five days a week, and it can be frustrating! hugs.gif

Yes Laurie, in fact I can't wait for tomorrow, I don't want the vet to think I don't believe him or nothing like that, I just want to ask him some questions.  I need facts and I want to know if is still possible that Lucas has hyper-T or not.

I pray to God he doesn't have that, I just need a definitive answer, if he has doubts, I want another test then.  I will just ask him to explain the results to me and I will ask questions politely.

It is frustrating, I didn't know he didn't work today, there are two vets that work at the clinic so I guess the other one was there today.

Thanks for your support Laurie:)

Update! I just got back from the vet.  He was very nice and explained the results, Lucas doesn't have hyperthyroidismwoohoo.gifI'm just so glad! Here is what he explained: the TSH was normal, now the Free T4 was high, so he decided to add another tests which was the T4 to make sure.  The T4 was completely normal.  So he told me not to worry about his Thyroid for now, he says that what Lucas is having is the effects of Lupus.  He told me the only treatment is to continue with the prednisolone and to keep him as stress free as possible.  So I will continue to work with his dose of pred, give him the anxiety medication, give him  the best diet possible, and that's it.  He told me the positive side is that all of Lucas blood tests were normal and that the pred hasn't affected his liver and his kidneys are fine.

I'm just so glad that Lucas doens't have thyroid problems, that will be to much for him and me to handle.  It is a blessing:)  I'm at peace now.

Hugs, TAmmy

Oh thank you so much Laurie!! I'm feeling so relieved, I'm glad I decided to go talk to the vet,  he now knows how much I care about Lucas and I have to say,   he is the best vet Lucas have had so far.  The others just don't seem to have the knowledge to deal with a cat like my Lucas, most vets here are good for vaccines and to spay and neuter, but they don't order blood tests and they don;t know how to deal with serious diseases.

I'm feeling relaxed now.

TAMMY - I am SOOOOO very happy to hear that Lucas does not have the thyroid condition. I know honey this last week has been so very distressing for you...... I love your words - BLESSING AND PEACE. So true - it is a blessing that Lucas is not Hyperthyroid on top of the Lucas and it brings much peace that you won't have to deal with that health issue now. There is nothing more emotionally draining and heart wrenching when our babies have multiple health issues to deal with at the same time. I honestly think that regardless of what comes down the road though, you will have the strength to handle anything because of your deep love of Lucas. Somehow we just manage day to day and learn to deal with the roadblocks that come out way. It never ceases to amaze me the strength we have when we dig down deep and pull ourselves and our babies through whatever comes our way. We do it because we don't have a choice.... and somehow we just adjust to whatever life throws at us. I am speaking from experience laughing02.gif.... Give Lucas a little scritch from me tonight - he has been such a good little trooper through all of this.... and how could he not - he has YOU heartpump.gifheart.gifhearthrob.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif
