Why is almost any brand cat food more palatable to almost any brand dog food for my dog?  All of this is of the 'dry' bagged variety. My dog will only eat her dog foot only after she figures that if she doesn't, she will not ear.

Thanks

Because it's not theirs?  I don't know, my dogs will literally eat anything, set kibble in front of them and gone in 30 seconds.   My cat doesn't eat kibble but I know my sisters dog tries pretty hard to eat her cats food.  Of course dogs eat cat poop too so they don't really care what form cat food is in.

I do know that it is alright if dog's eat cat food - but it is not alright if cat's eat dog food. My older dog refuses to eat canned dog food - no matter how hard I try to "stink it up" he just knows it is dog food. Canned cat food - he will chow down every time. Don't really know why that is - but you are right! I think once the dog's go to cat food there is no going back to dog food :lol2: He won't even eat Instinct dog or cat food - because both forumula's for cats/dogs Intinct wet are exactly the same - He refuses to eat it because the label says it is for dog's :rolleyes2:  Seriously, I can't figure that one out for the life of me :lol3:

I don't have a dog, but I suspect the reason dogs like cat food is the same reason they like cat poop - it's the protein. I haven't looked, but I think you'll find cat food higher in protein than dog food. I know dogs eat cat poop because it smells like protein. In discussing raw with the vet, so many of the commercial raw foods are marketed for both cats and dogs. Someone brought in a label to see if it was OK for their dog. It was one of the 95% meat/bone/organs to 5% veggies. She though it was much too high in protein for a dog, and wouldn't feed it to her dogs, but thought it looked great for a cat.

Dog food isn't good for cats because they might not get enough taurine...and I suspect it has too many carbs for cats (though most cat food is too high in carbs for cats. :lol3: ).

When my dog wasn't eating the vet asked us to bring in her favorite food... it was our cats' wet food... She informed us that very small amounts of cat food is ok for dogs, but more than that is not, she said that cat food has way too much protein for dogs.

Yep I agree cat food has way to much protein for dogs, I have to feed all my cats on top of the fridge now because of one of my pigs   sorry dogs will climb onto the work surface and pinch it otherwise

I have 2 dogs and I also suspect it is the protein.  I've never done much research on this either but I'm pretty sure that is the case.  And so far from what I have read everyone knows that it's okay for the dog to eat the cat food but not vice versa.  And yes, taurine is the reason among others.  But we are talking about feeding a cat a regular diet of dog food being harmful.  A kitty that does a quick, sneak taste of the dog's food is probably not going to be the worse for wear
My dogs will eat anything.  Anything. And they love cat poop.  I have to take special precautions in order to keep them out of the litter boxes.  Cat poop is like doggie caviar.  I have also known dogs to eat their own poop on a regular basis.  But that is a dog thread

I have had my dog eat some cat food accidentally and my cat has snatched a couple bites of my dogs wet food.
