Thinking of getting a larger screen TV

When we moved into this house 11 years ago we bought a beautiful entertainment unit for the family room.     It holds a 32 inch TV, which seemed good at the time.  In fact 11 years ago we had a 27 inch and a few years after that changed it for the 32.    Now we're sorry we didn't think ahead and get a unit to hold a larger TV.     I love the entertainement center, but we would like a bigger TV.    I'm thinking of moving it into the living room (which we never use) and get a larger screen TV with some kind of unit or stand to put it onfor the family room..    The entertainment center we now have has pocket doors so I'm thinking of maybe having a carpenter put some shelves on the inside (where the TV was) and using it for storage.  What do you think?    I'll try to take a picture of the entertainment center and post it later.  It's a really pretty piece of furniture.

We love our 42" TV.  We have ours mounted on the wall (which means you have buy the mounting kit separately--they're pricey, too).  Football is GREAT on a big screen TV!

The enterainment armoire sounds nice; and I think you're wise to re-purpose it. A carpenter should be able to retrofit shelves.

Football is awesome on the big screen.  I go to mom's.  Big screen, mom and lots of snacks. Football parties.  BTW I am GB Packers.  Hubby is  NE Pats.  Its his turn!

We have a 40".  I forget what we had before this; but it seemed decent until video games started being made in wide screen.  We couldn't tell the difference between Mario and Luigi! laughing02.gif  At first it felt like it was so huge I had to sit on the other side of the house to watch comfortably; but now I'm used to it and kind of like that I can see the tv and read the captioning from in here, nearly at the other side of the house (the skinny ways).  We did have to get a new entertainment center.  But the old one we had was one DH was given used in his bachelor days anyway.  But for a while we had the old TV sitting in the unit and the new TV on top.  People thought that was a hoot.

I think it would be cool to turn the old unit into an armoire.  Depending on where you want to put it you could do different things.  Shelves or even a pole to hang clothing.  I know I even saw them turn one into a computer desk for a bedroom on Design On a Dime.  (I love HGTV/DIY!)  I would totally have fun with that project! nerd.gif

We bought our 42-inch JVC about 3-4 years ago; that is in the bedroom. Rick has been talking about getting a new tv to replace the 36-inch Sharp in the living room, but we haven't done so yet. I'm thinking that if it holds out until this coming Christmas shopping, we'll get a new tv then (he would like to have a 50-inch or larger). But it's been repaired now twice and there are "bars" showing up on the viewing screen sometimes when we first turn the tv on, so we may not be lucky enough to be able to wait. The Sharp is probably about 13 years old now, so we can't complain.

Rick has the tv in the living room and I use the one in the bedroom. He watches five or six different shows at one time and all that moving from channel to channel to channel makes me spastic....the remote never leaves his hand. I go back to the bedroom. And when he's gone for a few days, the tv in the living room is never even on.

I should add (and I don't know why I can only edit my post once and then the editing doesn't work after that) that my sister and BIL have a 42-inch Samsung on the wall in their kitchen above their kitchen table. They have a huge country-type kitchen with a fireplace and they're thinking about putting the tv on the brick mantle above the fireplace, but haven't done so yet.

Their kitchen is like ours in that people seem to congregate there....everybody always seems to stay in our kitchens instead of hanging out in our living rooms. I refuse to put a tv in our kitchen though and I don't know why. I just don't want one in there.

Lana, have fun with whatever you decide to do with your entertainment center! We have one in the living room, too, and I want to move it to the basement when it's finished. It's simply too big for our small living room and it takes up way too much space.
