I have been to this site before and got plenty of help! I have been caring for a group of feral kittens since they were born. I had five from two females, but now I am down to three. I have a black and white tuxedo one who is now hurt and limping. I was taking care of the cats by feeding them until they were big enough to look after themselves. This little one "Buddy" has stolen my heart. she is super cute and friendly! I cannot keep her inside becasue I already have two males. I noticed her limping today and when I try to touch her side she cries loudly. I cannot take her to the vet because we dont have any in my area and my husband wont pay for a "street" cat. Is there anything I can do to help her?  Thanks again for all the previous help and waiting patiently for answers!!!!

Thank you for the list of clinics! Unfortunately I dont live in the USA. I am currently living in Saudi Arabia. There are no vets in my city and the closest one is 4 hours away. So I have to wait and see when it comes to the ferals. I have three babies that I care for Gizmo, buddy and Kiara. They were all doing well and I would try to feed them at least once a day. I noticed Buddy was hurt yesterday! She is soo friendly and when she didnt come running to me, I knew something was wrong. She is limping bad and cries when I touch her left side. Today in the daylight I was able to inspect her better. No swelling, bleeding, shaking from fever, just limping. she will lay on her bad side, but not for long. I touched her foot and no yelping, just her side. I am afraid someone kicked her or hit her by accident. Over here the "street cats" are looked at like rats or mice. She didnt eat this morning, but tonight she got up and came to me when I fed the others. Will she be ok? I am praying and hoping for the best!!! My husband said once the babies are a little bigger we have to kick them out of our area, except Buddy!!!! We already have two male cats, not fixed, they dont do that here :'(    Thanks Again for the replies. they make me feel better as I wait and see ;)

Ah, I see, you dont have any access to vet for real? But you hubby said he wont give money on ferales, so he would give money on home cats?.  So there IS some sort of vet to get?

OK, but a friendly doctor for humans?  It should do.  And there are doctors who would do it. Not many but there are.

As you say, someone kicked her or she had an accident, getting perhaps touched on by a car.

A vet should look at her.

True, semiferales are made of tough wood.  If they are not, they dont make it so far for you to meet them.  You can sometimes see astonishing severe wounds they do survive and recover from on their own, while homeless. Sewered and amputated limbs for example.

So we can hope and chances arent bad.

But it is still a vet errand...

During the time, make sure she has a safe shelter somewhere. Enough warm, but sheltered from excessive warm, safe from loose dogs and unfriedly kids, etc... Near you so she has your protection, near water and food...

IF you have any thoughs on taking her in, NOW is the good time for it. When she is ill, she wont mind so much. As long as her room is safe and undisturbed.  It would work with a shy ferale. with friendly her you will not have any trouble at all.

Pity it is not possible to spay or neuter cats in S.A.  I had heard it before from another forumit (or it was you??).   S&N  is a major key for solving the problem of homeless cats, and helping them who are already homeless.   Cant it be done a little discreetly?  Or by emergency operation?  Say, they do have a torsion of the body parts in question. Very painful and risky for the health and life - quick operation necessary.... Im sure every vet would accept this gladely, and every judge and sheikh would accept.

Is this, your residents fertile boys, is why you cant have her inside? You dont want new kittens, with female her and two fertile boys?

Tough, but it is not uncommon cats living together  dont get "excited" by each other.

Many breeders have both sorts living togehter as family members.  They must have them in a special mating room to get something to happen, so they understand something is on...   :)

Or is it you are not sure she is healthy and dont want any contagion?   In this case a quarantine is the answer. Besides, they are them too ex semiferales?  So they too are made of tough wood...

Good luck to you and Buddy!    *vibes*

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO remember you and so glad to hear the Gizmo is doing well :hugs: :heart3: I am sorry about sweet little girl, Buddy. It is hard to know how to help these kitties especially if you don't have the support from your husband or your country for that matter - on spaying/neutering. :(. You are really stuck there. I would honestly say that if this kitty stops eating, is crying out in pain and cannot move and is going downhill suffering from pain - then the kind thing to do would be to have her humanely euthanized IF you can't afford to get her medical attention and don't have your hubby's support. I am sorry - but at times they cannot all be saved. Hopefully Buddy will just be able to heal from this injury on her own :cross: She is lucky to have you looking out for her though. :hugs: I know how hard you fight for these kitties and bless you so very much for caring.

I do agree with Stefan - it is such a pity that S&N is not done in your country. I am so very sad to know this. Because you will always have a never-ending population of stray/feral cats suffering these terrible diseases, illnesses and injuries. I wish I could do or say more to help you - I really do. You have a good heart and I wonder IF you could talk to your husband and try to get him to see how this hurts you so to see them suffering outside. :sigh: Other than that, there is really not much you can do all on your own other than offering shelter, food and water to these kitties.... :hugs::hugs: Please keep us updated on Buddy :rub:

Something like that is in fact done regularly in Sweden.   :(

You know there is a wide spread custom to shorten off tails in many dog breeds. Mainly for the looks of it.

This has been forbidden in Sweden about 10 years now.  As the amputation is not necessary for the dog, and not seldom done without painkillers even in our days.

But yet, many of these dogs do have tails shortened into this day... The trick?  Poor fellows "got infections", or do happen to "broke the tails", and so, an emergency operation is "necessary"...

Im not sure if they owners got cooperation of some vets, or if they just cut off the tails the old way.

But I think YOU will get it easier to get cooperation of a vet about S&N.

Sorrowfully, you can do so for the for cats in your protection. Any big TNR campaings are still impossible...
