Took the furbabies to the vet this morning.
I am so relieved to know that the vet thinks Pounce's large, swollen belly is due to weight gain and nothing else. We will have a full medical run on her in the next few months, but he said that there is nothing to worry about immediately. He felt her stomach very well and felt nothing abnormal and said that it couldn't be a bowel obstruction due to her healthy appetite and toilet habits. So, I can stop worrying about her for now!
Unfortunately, Piccalo is quite ill. The vet had to send off blood for a thyroid check, but he did run some preliminary tests in the office that indicated that every liver enzyme is elevated. Her glucose was also a little high, but that could be due to liver stress or simply stress from going to the vet. Since she has a great appetite (unusually good, actually), he feels that she does have hyperthyroidism, and it is causing liver damage. As soon as the blood tests come back, he is going to call so we can start treatment. Worried about my sweetheart!
