You're in a rough spot, and all I can suggest is that you try to find someone to help you.  Family, friends, etc.  You can apply for CareCredit at most vets, but being 18, you may not be eligible.

I've been in your position, and I don't envy the choices you will have to make.  But that lip won't heal on its own; she must be seen by a vet.

Don't they have vet ERs in Canada that operate on donations?  We even have that here in NYC.  So, with that great health care system in Canada, nothing for animals??   Do you pay taxes??

I am very sorry for your situation. What I would do if I had those circumstances, is call the vet office where you took your cat yesterday, and ask to talk to a vet tech.  Preferably the one who saw your 1st cat.  The front desk is sometimes not very helpful.  Tell them you were in yesterday, and you have a question for the tech.  Once you get the tech on the phone, explain your situation and ask what you can do at home for your cat.  Obviously the cat should see a vet, but you cant just do nothing.  You definatly sound like you want to do what is best for your cat.

Unfortunately, most vets in Canada will not accept payment plans unless you have a good reputation with them and have been going to them for years - even then, most won't. The ER vets won't see a pet without payment up front and it's extremely expensive.

We do have CareCredit in Canada though, you will most likely have to call around to different vets and see who accepts it. Most of the ER vets will, and you can apply while you're there. If you're 18, you're old enough to apply for a credit card here and therefore for CareCredit as well. You may need a cosigner, your boyfriend might be able to do that.

I would also go through PetFinder and see if there are any rescues in your area, then start calling them and explain the situation. They may have a vet that will be willing to work with you, or they may be willing to take your cat in as an owner surrender. In that case, you would have to give up your cat, but she would get the medical attention she needs.

I normally do not recommend it, but what about getting a loan from a Pawn Shop or Cash Store? The interest rates are extremely high, but she would get the attention she needs. You could also put some of your things in the pawn shop to get the money and then when you get some money again you can pay it back.

If you bank in Canada, which I'm assuming you do, and have decent credit, you may be able to apply for a small loan or line of credit. There should be a phone number on the back of your debit card that you can call and inquire, sometimes even apply, at any time. TD is one of the hardest banks to get money from, I've heard that Scotia is one of the easier ones.

Great advice, & YES, apply for Care Credit! I will be doing that soon as well. I know how it is when money is tight! I am still dealing w/ that @ 42yrs old! My hrs. @ work were cut back to 25/wk in July (hard to find anything else, even for just the 2 days I need to fill in) , & it's hard to make ends meet! I'm even looking for a house or 2 to clean on those days to make some cash.  Hope you have good luck w/ the vet tech! (at the very least keep it clean w/ peroxide if she will let you.)
