My eksplanation would be :-)

People who know people with Downs Syndrom know how loving they are, and how they hug and kiss when they meet us....right.?

For some people that is too much hugging and kissing :-)

Our cats se us as people with Downs Syndrom.....we are too much.

When 2 cats, that are friends meet each other they look shortly at each other......that is ...in cat lanquiche(sorry for my spelling) a hug

When cat rub their noses on us.....they dont kiss us, they tell other cats, that they own us.

When cats lick our faces or hands.....they like the salty taste of us, and they do not like the way we smell, they try to remove that smell of human.:-)

That is a very good way to look at it.  Perhaps, of course we learn from them as always.

I have a question about cats taking a short look at each other.  Is that when they bump their noses together?

That's interesting! I have to keep that in mind...  I would love to give Mario a friend!

Yes.  I am proud to announce that she is here.  She noticed the scent on the washcloth and went about her buisness walking around her cage before it was time to come home.  So far things are fine.  There was no hissing or agression from either cat at introduction.  She is still settling in, though.

One of my friends is veterinarian and animal therapist.....her speciality is animals social behavior......I learn a lot from her :-)

To your question......no. When cats is taking a short look at each other, they are good friends......when cats rub their noses together they are family :-)

Have a nice weekend.

Thank you.  My boy did go up to her and touch her nose with his and walk away.  I am happy that she is officially family!

Have a nice weekend too. :-)

Not all cats are like that.  Bijou actually comes looking for me to cuddle with him.  If I'm reading the paper or ignoring him he will butt my arm or paw at it to get attention.  This morning I was emptying the dishwasher and he started meowing.  I went into the living room where he was perched and he tried to climb up onto my back.  He purrs and closes his eyes when I start kissing his cheeks, top of his head and under his chin.  He never moves away from all the lovin'.

I disagree that they don't like our taste.  I think they like the salt on our skin and that is why they lick.

Well, I don't know where the idea that cats lick humans because they don't like their smell comes from. I do remember hearing that lions don't attack humans, or even like to be around them, because they don't like their smell. I have no experience with lions, except viewing them at the zoo. But, still, I wonder about the validity of this idea. How was this theory determined, and tested? Is there any factual basis to this idea?

Do you have any real science to back this theory up for domestic cats?

My Mario is not really a licker - she only likes to lick my Elizabeth Arden hand lotion if I put that on.  I think she loves the smell - I must say I do.  I had a little boy cat who would sometimes give me kisses after we played.  He would play bite my fingers, then give kisses in the same spot as if to say "I'm sorry - I was just playing".  It would melt my heart every time.  I definitely believe kitties like to give kisses too.

However, my Mario loves to snuggle close to me, but she cleans herself afterwards always - so I don't think she likes the smell of me on her - or it could be I've mussied up her fur.  But she's a very vain girl anyway.

I don't think you need to worry about this. Most cats don't like to cuddle anyway, including my cat. Cats usually choose when they want to snuggle and play, so it is best not to try to play and give your cat a lot of attention when they seem to be relaxing or trying to sleep.

If you have any links to any scientific studies that support the validity of your claims, I'd like to see them.

I can agree with the "lick us because they like the salt" part at least because my cats will always come by for an arm lick after I've just got back from a run and am all sweaty. I've never heard the licking us because they dislike our smell thing, except that they lick our smell off of their fur after being pet, but that's just because they enjoy smelling like themselves.

Tech Cat 2 is not a licker or a cuddler.  He looks like a darling, sweet angel but he just enjoys a bite.  Actually, we have been excersising with him and having him chase the laser as well as other cat toys.  It does seem to curb his urge to bite.

Elizabeth Arden must have a particular ingredient that she finds palatable.  LOL

Tech Cat 2 enjoys strawberries, watermelon and even tomatoes which is also unusual for a cat.  I hope they aren't bad for him.  He doesn't get his change to have them much anyways.  I know he's never supposed to have chocolate so that's off limits. Like I said, maybe when he gets older and settles down he might enjoy a cuddle.  For now, he's just over a year old.

All my cats don't mind a pet except for the kitty in question.  He does not snuggle.  I don't dare disturb him when he sleeps, because if he hears his name he's up and running.  He seems to have tons of energy.  Playing is what he does best.  He's young still.
