Hello! My name is Felicia & i am new here! Nice to meet you all! There's something i want to ask here, I have a 14weeks kitten for 1 months now. First time I picked him from my friend's house (he's one of my friend's litter), he only feed him Friski*s, so I stick to it since it's still an adaptation phase.

Later on, I bought Roy*l Can*n Babycat for him & he eat well.. Up to this point, his stool is normal & fine. Hard, dark color, not too stinks (but a bit stinky when he's still on Friski*s), then after the Babycat is finished (it's the 400gr pack) i switched him to Nutrisourc* Chicken & Rice (starts around early January) & he's doing fine with it (i switched his food gradually everytime i need to change his food, with 70:30 first, then progress to 50:50 after few days & so on)

A week ago, he had a mushy poo. Not a diarrhea but a mushy poo. I brought him to vet & got checked but everything's fine on him. So we assumed he's just got something wrong 'licked' when he played around the house (we had a Lunar New Year Celebration few days before so likely maybe he licked some crumbled cookies that fell down on the floor or something) the vet prescripted him a light antibiotics, & everything back to normal.

But now, since 2 days ago, i noticed that he got a softer stool. Not like those before the mushy poo incident. His stool now is not mushy, but just a bit softer than usual poo (i read that the normal stool would be hard, dark in color & well formed) mine is a bit soft, not so dark in color, well-formed, & not stinks. & he now goes around 3times a day. (before the mushy poo incident, he only go twice a day, one in the morning, second in the evening)

I am in a middle of switching his food again because since last month i have been searching for good food for him, now i feed him with Nutrisourc* (70%) x Felida* PureElement & Natur*s Variety Inst*nct (both mixed & make up for the 30% of the food) & will go for a mixture between Felida* & NV's & will stick to it (no more switching lol) I also feed him hard-boiled chicken meat with the broth once around 2days.

I also starts give him plain yogurt, but just a lil bit, only 1/4 tbsp since yesterday, before meal. His pee is normal & great. He's a great drinker & could go 5-6times a day.

I want to ask if his stool is completely normal?
Should I give the plain yogurt once a day or twice a day?
Is 3 times a day is normal?

Thank you for answering! :)

There's no place like home
Changing food as often as you are doing can cause mushy stools until they adjust to the new food. You were right to get him off the Friskies, but you might want to slow down on changing his food around until he adjusts to something.

Going 3 times a day seems high, but if he is having digestive issues because of the food, then it doesn't surprise me that he goes more often.

Hi! Thanks for replying!

Actually, he's been on the Nutrisourc* since early January, around 2 weeks before the mushy poo incident (when that, the Nutrisourc* was still mixed with RC Babycat) & he's been fed Nutrisourc* for around 3-4weeks now (except now is mixed with new foods) that's why the vet agreed that it's not the food that caused the mushy poo.. Because, she said that, if the cats don't suit well on the food, you can see the effect immediately (3 days is the longest) after you feed him/her at the first time..

Yes I do feel bad changing so often in this month! But now I've found the good brands I won't change to another for sometimes! Finding good brands here is an ordeal! Not to mention i was still such a newbie back then, so i need time to find the pet supply store that carry those brands..(& the store is far away from my place! LOL! it's really an ordeal! :D)

How if the cats have a big appetite? Will it affect the 'stooling' if cats eat much more than usual? He eats more than before after I gave him the new mixture of foods. It seems that he love the new food & ate more than usual. ;)

Oh & he got no worms. The vet checked on him when he had the mushy poo incident & no traces of worms were present in his stool sample..
