Loki is about fifteen years old and some kind of siamese mix. He has now gotten into the litter box three times to poo and screamed with no resulting elimination. The vet did blood work and took x rays yesterday and tells me there are no signs of constipation, and his blood work is excellent for his age. They told me they put a thermometer pretty far up his rectum and there was no poo in there. This morning we had a screaming repeat of trying to poo and no results/ Any ideas. I know it is not a bladder issue as his urinalysis was clean and i am way familiiar with crystals as y other feline has had struites for years and finally had his penis removed. Loki is peeing freely just not pooing! Help.

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

your kitty is obviously very constipated - your vet has some pretty rough method, IMHO...... I bet if he had done an x-ray he would had seen poop in there.... If the kitty is going to the box and straining to poop to the point of screaming, and not pooping.... and doing this repeatedly.... well.... the poop is stuck in there and is not coming out - and the kitty is in obvious pain!
I would either take him to another vet for an enema, or put him on miralax..... you can safely give 1/4 tsp 2x a day until he poops then reduce it to once a day..... Miralax works very well, and is very safe - you can buy in any pharmacy - just mix it with his wet food..... But do it fast as your baby is suffering

I know your vet took x rays and didn't see anything, but clearly something is wrong. I would go to a new vet and get another opinion, and perhaps another xray. One thought... unfortunately plastic doesn't necessarily show up on an xray, and it's possible there's some plastic causing a blockage.
Vibes for you and your Loki.

are there sogns i should be looking for for blockage? Loki went to the box and eliminated a few peices without screaming a half hour ago...would he be able to go if he was blocked? The internets only talk about being bcked up and nothing abot backed up with no signs.

If he was able to go to the bathroom without screaming, and the vet didn't see anything on the xray, then I think you're past that risk (of a blockage). But I would give him some miralax - or even add some pumpkin to his diet for a little while, to make sure he doesn't have ongoing problems with constipation.

I would definitely take him back to the vet. Did the vet check his anal glands (sorry tmi)? Sometimes when they are full or infected it hurts them to go poo. Keep us updated!

Welcome to TCS !!!!! Sorry your kitty is having this problem. Please make sure the anal glands are not infected or blocked..... This vet should have checked that. I would get another opinion. If one of the sacs is blocked, then infection will set in and the sac could abscess.

I really hope your kitty feels better !
