Pee on my bed

I was sitting at the computer in the bedroom tonight and Cooper just jumped up on the bed, squatted and urinated. When I saw him he had the look on his face which I thought was odd, and at first I thought he was looking at his shadow from the overhead light. But nope. He has done this a total of 2 other times in his life. Once when he was a kitten when I first brought him home and once on the blow up mattress my parents brought when they came to stay with us from out of state.

I don't even know what to think. He ran in here and jumped right on the bed to do it. He had to go past one litter box and another one is in the master bathroom not more than 15 feet from the bed. I've had no other litter box issues with the cats.

Anyone have any ideas? Payback for the ear drops he has been getting preventatively because Jackson has ear mites?

It could be stress, but any sudden inappropriate peeing usually calls for a trip to the vet. It can be one of the first signs of a UTI. Another thing to look for is how many litterboxes you have. some cats really don't like to share, and he could have done it because he felt he couldn't g in his own box, although since you mention that you've not had any other problems, I'd look into a vet visit first, just to rule out anything medical.

Good luck!

Well, we used to have our cat Sasuke and our current cat Hanabi, they did the same thing. I was roommating so the cats and I stayed in one room, litter box next to the bed. They always peed when I was in bed. I took them to the vet, but all we were told is, "It could be a urine infection." Gave us some pills and sent us on our way. That didn't help at all. What did help was getting Sasuke neutered. Hanabi later, stopped when she became pregnant. My theory is competitive marking. They're way of saying, "This is my human. My spot!"

Or it could be what my friend's cat does when he's pissed. Like, if her room isn't clean he'll pee. If his food is disturbed he'll pee. His litter box isn't completely clean, he'll pee. If someone has been in her room he doesn't know, he'll pee.

I would do the vet trip as a last resort unless he's peeing everywhere and not just in a single spot. A urine infection tells me, he can't control where he pees. But to jump on the bed and do it, says something else.

First, don't react; urination is a form of communication for cats, and inappropriate urination can be a way for them to "raise the red flag." Although a UTI clearly has a direct link to urine, it could be something else, especially since your cat seems to be very well behaved.

Check him over very carefully. Does he have fleas? A spot of mange? Was there blood in the urine? Is he hurt? Did he lose a nail? Check his paws, teeth, and fur carefully. Look him in the eyes. Does he look right?

Another thing that you can do (if you haven't washed the sheets yet) is to go into a room with your cat, sit down quietly on the floor, and put the sheets in front of you. They will stink. What you're saying to the cat is, "OK, we need to talk about this." Make it clear that you are paying full attention to the sheets that your cat peed on. Now, look back and forth slowly between the sheets and your cat. Look him dead in the eyes, and talk to him. "Hey kitty.... you peed on my sheets... what's the problem here?" The point here is to let the cat know that it has your full attention, and you're listening--trying to understand if there's a problem, and if so, what it is. As I'm sure you know, cats are very perceptive and attentive regarding what you're focused on. The cat will get it!!!

Then, watch very carefully what the animal does. You have to pay close attention to the reactions (which can be pretty amazing, btw). Do they lick a certain spot on their body? How do they behave? Do they walk into another room? Do they want you to follow them? What are they trying to tell you?

UGh, he did it again. I didn't catch him in the act. At least it's a waterbed so I don't have to worry about it soaking into a regular mattress. I'm just at the end of my rope today. My husband just got out of the hospital a week ago after having open heart surgery and my plate is full right now. I don't need the extra laundry every day.
