I've been using the Taking Care of Your Cat book since it was published in 1979. Gets me thru some basic things that I don't have to do very often. I also have the Cornell Book of Cats which is very comprehensive and gets into the medical side of things. I bought that book after I saw it recommended here and have been very pleased with it.

I can also recommend the latest edition of the Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook

Debra Eldredge, Delbert G. Carlson, Liisa D. Carlson, Beth Adelman, James M. Giffin

An excellent reference book.

I bought two books on Amazon

The Cat Owners Home Veterinary handbook and Vet Guide to Symptoms

They will be here Monday. I will look for that book, Taking Care Of Your Cat. I ran out of money for now.

I was worried something would happen and I wouldn't have help.

Oh! Wait! I can come here now. But I was thinking immediate help

Thank you for replying

It hasn't been updated since it was published in 1979 and I'm not sure you can still purchase it. If you ever get into a situation where you would need to give CPR, apply a tourniquet, test for dehydration, etc, its a great basic book, but it is a book for beginners. What I like most about it is that it's organized by situation. For example, a situation would be vomiting. When you turn to that section, it takes you through a list of questions to determine whether you can work a home treatment, call a vet, or rush to the ER. It gives you a very good sense on how urgent the situation is and the best way to respond.

I have a conclusion to this saga

I bought the Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook from Amazon. com

It was what I needed.

You know a lot of the questions asked here, the answers are in that book.

I was concerned about it with the pictures being so out dated. But the content is all very fine.

Thank you for recommending this.
