Bathing for a Show?

I've been reading about how to prepare a cat for show and everything I've read talks about bathing them - we're getting used to that whole idea but still aren't terribly sure about it (I'm fine, she's not so sure.) One site talked about washing with multiple shampoos? A degreaser, then a color enahncer, then a volumizer then a ph balancing shampoo then a conditioner. My thought was wow, is all that really necessary? I have a black tortie with white Norwegian Forest Cat and am wondering what products I need to get to start her off - I'll start showing her in a few months (work has me in a bind even on the weekends). Can anyone help me out with suggesions? Thanks

If you dont want, you arent FORCED to do the whole battery, as long as she is nice and tidy.

I suppose for the relatively longhaired NFC you must at least bathe them.

The problem is, many judges in longhair breeds believe preparing is a big part of the show. And thus, no good grades without clearly apparent the owner did her homework, and also her best to prepare the cat...

So you will surely get your Excellent so you know it is OK to breed on your cat. But you will not have any chance of fight for Best in Show withouth these elaborated preparations.

If ALL judges thinks so, I wont swear. But I had understood many does.

Let the specialists and shows afficionados tell more!   :)

Good luck!

I have a Maine Coon and I found that she really didn't need all those steps... The first few times I bathed her I went through the whole elaborate routine. She ended up with white flecks in her fur (she was black so it showed up very noticeably!) She was never greasy so I skipped the degreaser, then I got tired of doing that long protocol and just used shampoo and some cream rinse (which I rinsed out to avoid and white flecks) and she looked great. I think it really depends on the cat's condition as far as how much of that is really necessary.

Her breeder is probably the best person to ask.  She will understand what sort of coats her cats have (they vary quite a bit), and what they need for show preparation.  Also how far in advance to bath her.

Just as I was going to post. The breeder is really the best one to ask. definitely get your bathing routine sorted out well in advance of the show, and good luck for when you do start showing smile.gif
