Does anyone have an idea what could be the cause of it? Any suggestions for treatment?

The best would be to let a vet check her up.   I mean, not to guess and try with home remedies, but let a good vet check it out. Home remedies may perhaps be useful after it, when we know what it is.

Use a trap if necessary.  Or try to wrap her up with some thick towel... When wrapped up and defenceless, they do submit.

How looks your works?  Are them spayed/neutered, or are you doing it as soon as you have occasion?

If so - you surely do cooperate with a vet...  :)

If not - giving the hungry food is nice and well, but it becomes excellent first when you also neuter them (or find foster / adoptions homes).  Please do please on neutering them...

Good luck!   *vibes*

ps.  Welcome to the TCS site and our forums!

WELCOME TO TCS :clap:. AWWW poor baby.... That actually looks like a bite wound of some sort... i do see where the hair is thinning - but that wound needs to be treated. I would also suggest that you trap this kitty and see about getting a vet to check her out. Please DO look into a TNR organization about getting this group of feral cats sterilized. It is the best thing to do - otherwise - just more kittens and more suffering. Thank you SO much for caring and trying to help this kitty. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Please do please on neutering them...
" Please do PLAN on neutering them"   was what I wanted to write.

A typo, and now I cant edit in the original post, I dont know why.

As said, please tell more what and how you are doing this caretaking of your colony...

Here are a few pictures of her.

How is your cat doing? Did you ever find out what the trouble was? Did she get well?

I presently have a feral who has what looks like a similar condition, so I'm really interested to hear!

Unfortunately she disappeared not too long after this and I wasn't able to help her.

I find that antibiotics (Amoxicillin) is worth a try when you can't figure out what the problem is. And it's the first thing the vets usually prescribe after all the tests.

You maybe able to get some on ebay.

Dosage Amoxicillin should be 5 to 10 mg per pound, once or twice daily for 7 to 10 days

More info here:

Some other medications I've been able to find online without prescription:

Panacure c - for hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms whipworms and gardia.

Dosage 1gram for 10 pound cat for 3 days.

Stronghold - fleas, ear mites

I buy from here: http://www.shop.vetmeds4pets.co.uk/index.php?cPath=34_100_101

Praziquantel for tapeworms.

Pyrantel pamoate for roundworms, hookworms and pinworms.

I keep some of each of these meds and use them every once in a while. They shouldn't cause any harm if dosed properly and they treat the common issues.

I want to comment; panacure (Axilur in Sweden) takes almost all worms etc, and its why its a popular dewormer,  but its something of a horse cure - you need to be strong and healthy for this.

The other alternatives arent that all round, but are much milder, so for example, Pyrantel preparates should be milder, may even be given to smallish kittens.
