Hi All - Paddy turns 2 today! Interestingly, I do know her actual birthday as her original owner (who had her for about 11 months ... and no mention of her incontinence, which has always baffled me) passed her details on to the second family where her incontinence became an issue and hence, via the shelter, it's come to me. The other two have 'designated' birthdays that approximate what vets/ shelters have told me on their ages: Rudi's is 3rd September and he'll be 6 this year and Little Cow's is 17th April and she'll be 4.
See link for a little photo of Paddy taken on Friday (assuming the link works). She's actually been in the wars a little over the last week or two and so her special birthday treat is a trip to the vet tomorrow afternoon. Lucky girl!

She's had a sort of blister/ sore area just above her nose for about a week and I noticed yesterday it was bleeding ever so slightly. You can possibly see a little disclouration in the picture? I suspect she got into a fight with either R or LC and got a bop on the schnozz. But worth getting it looked at. Suspect war wounds like this are just a rite of passage for an farm/ outside cat: heaven knows, Rudi sometimes looks like he's rumbled with every cat for a mile. Paddy has 'hardened up' so much over the last few months (not that I'm advocating the farm life for all cats, mind) that she doesn't seem troubled by it at all. Let's see what the vet says: I'm also going to have a chat with them about her incontinence - she was seen by someone else a few miles away and I'd like to get exploring things properly. I don't want to go down the medicine for life route - it just isn't practical - but if they said 'hey, we reckon a little op could cure this' then I'd go for it and, if it worked, she could become a proper indoor/ outdoor girl.
She really is becoming a fantastic farm cat and, rather splendidly, her love of exploration means that she has found herself a 'second home' on the farm - there's an old workshop (with a pit for getting under cars) down at the end of the farm and she's realised that she can get in via a broken window (fret not, no glass troubles) and run around/ sleep in there. It's a huge brick building and so I'm going to put a cat bed and some straw in there in the next wee while and see if she takes to it more permanently. To be honest, I'd rather she was there than in the courtyard as there is far less car activity.
When the spring comes - and, to be fair, the winter has been pretty mild - I think she will explode with happiness. I know her brother will - like him, I suspect she'll come to love to joy of lazing around in the fields.
So happy birthday, Sweetie. Now go catch your Dad some mice!
