So, I have three cats-- Sadie, Luna and Milo. Sadie is the oldest and one I've had the longest (almost one year.) She was a stray that I found in March of 2011. Our vet predicted her birthday was around January of 2010, so she's about two now. She's up to date on all shots, etc and was spayed in August. I never had any cats before Sadie, so I'm not quite proficient in the cat-health field. I've been noticing that what I'm thinking is her third eyelid (which is what I'm guessing because of Google,) starts to show when she's "making biscuits," purring, almost asleep or just really comfortable. I don't see them any other time, but I can't find anywhere if that's normal. I'll post a photo that shows what it looks like. Any help would be appreciated ! :)

In the circumstances mentioned, this is a sign of relaxation and "half-sleepiness."  That eyelid closes as the other eyelids close when the cat goes to sleep.

Should that "third eyelid," which is called the nictitating membrane, show during normal wakefulness, it usually indicates a sick cat.  If you've seen my thread about our Flambe, you know that that is one sign that concerns me about him right now.

Your baby is cute!  mrblanche is right but it never hurts to take them to the vet (or call for a consult) and see what they think if you are wondering or worried.

Yes, I agree w/ what the others are saying. My Angel has Feline Herpes & when I start to see his, & it's pink, I know it's time for his eye drops. If you aren't seeing it fully through the day, etc.. than prob what mrblanche said, but always good to have the vet to check it out to test & rule out, or treat.  Hope all is well!  :)

Hi Cortnee!

Don't worry about it!

I have cats and they always show their eyelids.

I asked to my vet about this matter and he answered me that all cats had the eyelid.

See you soon!!!

Bye!
